1983 CR 125 shifting issue

I have a 1983 CR 125 that when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear goes into neutral ( this happens about 25% of the time and seems to occur more frequently when riding on bumpy ground). Is this a common problem with this bike? I had someone tell me there was an issue with something in the transmission in this bike and people were replacing parts with those from a later model.

I never had that problem in 83 and 84 so I can say it wasn't a problem in the day. Full season or racing it in 84 and it was trouble free.

I had a problem with my 83 doing the same find yourself some 86 gear shift shaft and selector and fit them straight up problem sorted I put some pictures and notes up in one of my previous build posts

I have an 86 that was acting up this past weekend under holeshot situations ..... wouldn't shift to fourth without completely letting off and clutching it? I did find out I had a little too much oil in there, so hopefully that was it? Other than that it worked fine?

24610-KA3-740 shift shaft
24320-KA3-740 shift drum
24322-HA0-000 COLLAR, SHIFTER
24324-KA3-740 PAWL, RATCHET [2]
24326-360-010 PLUNGER, PAWL [2]
24329-KA3-740 SPRING, PAWL PLUNGER [2]

84-86 - I believe #7 is the same as the 83 part. I replaced as many of the circled parts as I could find. The biggest thing is the shift shaft and #9
