We have a small mini bar off the kitchen- also did a glass tile backsplash (from Menards) with a pre-mixed "metallic" grout:

Ours has been 99% complete for a while and I still need to get some pics with a real camera. Haven't decided what exactly to do for a small kitchen island/prep area as there is not really enough room for anything too big but open enough that it needs "something" there.

The 48 inch Thermador range has been the favorite appliance and has been getting used quite a bit. We got rid of a whole bunch of old junk cookware and have been buying up a few nicer pieces. I dug out some never used cast iron from years ago and have been trying to perfect my seasoning process with lots of bacon and eggs.Smile

Just delivered from Jones Wood Works in Pa., 16x22 black walnut end grain cutting board

"The Laundry Room" turned out great and has a lot more usable room than in its former state.

Looks great Brad. Are any of the edges of the tile exposed? Looked at tile at Menards and didn't like the way the edges looked for the wall that would be exposed. Not sure if there is something with a finished edge or bull nose?

For undercabinet lighting I recommend this. Very inexpensive, easy to install and so far looks and works great:

Needed this transformer and used these connectors

Only thing that didn't work was this dimmer. Reviews all said good things but for some reason it's not working for me?

Menards sells an aluminum edge strip. We used a bronze colored edge. There are a variety of different colors.

Some nice work to see here.
Built mine a year ago. It's all ikea and very low budget. Most expensive thing was the vinyl countertops with like 400 bucks. Quality is pretty okay though. Nothing special but it's acceptable

Some kitchens I've done for great customers. My company designs and builds everything completely in house.

I thought I'd drag up this thread again...Time for Kitchen #2 for me! I'm in the demo phase right now. Cabinets are delivered and pretty much all new appliances.

Incredible before/after pics. Love it!

We're going to start the process this summer. I'll be sure and document the journey, because that is what it is, a journey.

My wife is trying to talk me into the black stainless appliances. I like them, but damn, 3k for a refrigerator is outrageous. I told her plain white, or almond. I got "the look".

Just take my money!

Seeing as the door casing/molding is already in place after he removed the exiting flooring in exchange for the new hardwood there was already a gap left from removing the old flooring so the new hardwood simply slid under it. That is unless he chose a real hardwood where it is usually thicker. In that case he more than likely would of had to trim the bottom of the casing for the hardwood to slide under it for a clean finish.

It looks like he replaced carpet with an engineered hardwood which is fairly thin. I could be wrong but I don't think he had to cut the casing in order for it to fit under.

If you need to trim the casing in order for your new floor to fit don't remove it. Simply put your new flooring up against the casing and mark it with a pencil. From there cut it with one of those oscillating multi-tool/saw if you have access to one.

Here's an update on where we were at a couple weeks ago, before granite. I'm using reclaimed redwood fencing for shelves and the detail behind the eating nook...

This is impressive, didn't realize there were so many qualified interior designers 'round here.

Don't forget a lot of these guys have significant others. They account for 99% of the decision with the 1% being the man agreeing to what they want lol.

Here is a before of the one in the third picture above, probably the ugliest we've ever torn out. Gotta love the cedar shake capped soffit, don't know when that was ever in style!!

The 4th one down has the right mix of dark and light for me. The backsplash and lighting is really good. Too much white in some of the others but that's not your call. Are those all thermafoil? What other choices are there for white cabs? I haven't done a kitchen in about 7 years. Mostly baths lately for me.

I'm not a big fan of all the white either, but like you said not my call. But all white is the rage lately, at least around here.
Those are all real wood cabinets, I'll never put in thermafoil (I've taken many out though). The cabinets in the first kitchen with the inlay doors are from a local custom cabinet maker, the second two are box cabinets from different manufacturers but still real wood.

Mine isn't so impressive but it was a big improvement in that 73 mobile.

I need some before and after pics of my oldest sons house they have recently moved into. All the woodwork in the house was natural oak with a rough porous grain. Took a bit of priming and sanding to fill all of it but it turned out great in Divine White. His entire house was a medium tan, walls, ceilings, closets...had to wonder what the hell the original owners were thinking. Lots of painting but damn what a difference it made.

Just wondering - the third pic in your first group of pics.

What was the reasoning for filling in the area above the uppers on the left & not the ones on the right?

That's just what that particular designer wanted to hide the hood venting and the homeowner didn't want to pay for anything else. I tried to convince him to frame the whole ceiling flat as I am not a fan of cathedral ceilings in a kitchen (or anywhere else for that matter), but he didn't want to spend the money. I think it was just a live there for two years and flip deal for him. We build whatever the homeowner wants and is willing to pay for.

OK - thanks.

We're way overdue for a kitchen overhaul here. Only problem is there are other parts of the house even more overdue for 'stuff' & 'things'.

Hope this thread is still findable when it does come time - some good stuff in here.

Ok. I wasn't sure. It looks like NM wire poked through the drywall. Is that where the boxes will be? It looks kind of high.

Have you seen the black stainless steel? I think they look pretty cool. It's not for everyone but it's certainly different.

What made you go with hardwood in the kitchen? I see it a lot and it seems to be pretty popular choice. Personally I'm not a big fan of it. Spills need to be cleaned up right away which isn't really an issue but dropping plates, utensils, etc. leave marks/dents very easily.

The high loop system works but mainly because kitchen sinks rarely overflow. If you have a clog, who stands there and runs water until it spills over the side of the sink? BTW, if the sink is overflowing, the high loop probably wont keep it out of the dishwasher. There is no way to get that loop above the rim of the sink unless you leave some drywall off and run the loop up between the studs. Use the Gap. It's cheap and resolves the issue.

It cost you money anyway, even if the insurance pays you generous... they always find some small letters
in the contract you weren't aware of... good luck
