SSR 125 Opinions?

Jeff Willow seems to be smoking a lot of guys on Japanese bikes on one of the SSR bigger bikes. Credit where it's due?

The big bike is a completely different manufacturer (Asiawing) from the pit bikes.

Well to be fair Jeff was a pro and making a living at it. Those guys don't lose the talent. Might be beating other riders but who knows how much work goes into his program and how much parts are replaced after each race.

I know one thing. I wouldn't buy a Chinese bike even less a full size one. I'd rather buy a used bike that I can fix up and know will be reliable and know that if I need parts that I will be able to find what I need whether that's from a dealer or online. Not to mention but resale on those bikes must not be all that great.

I was looking for used Japanese bikes first but couldn't find one with reasonable price and condition. They where all too expensive or too worn out so we decided to get brand new Chinese bike. I still think we made a right choice.


Many of the pit bikes use same "YX125" motor and you can find ton's of parts for that motor from Ebay. You can even get brand new complete motor for a price of an Japanese bike motor rebuild. My girlfriends bike has got same plastics as Yamaha TTR 125 so finding them won't be too hard either.

Depends on what you want to do with it. Don't go into it expecting Japanese quality and stay on top of it and a SSR might be fine for you. If u get one pull it apart and loctite every bolt change all the oil chain will probably not last long.
I'd say get a used klx or drz 110 (same bike basically just different color) a 50 if ur trying to turn it into a legit pitbike to race (some races still around) ur gonna have to spend some $$$ the 110 is has many more options for parts.
Just bite the bullet and find a bbr pitbike someone has already built. But ur gonna have to save a few more pennies than 100k

Oh, no... buy a real bike. I ride my boys ttr50 and it's fun and solid.

Out of all the pit bikes I've track ridden, motovert was the best.

I had a SSR 125, I liked it, beat the hell out of it and sold it for about $400 less than I paid for it 3yrs. earlier.

I had an ssr110 and it honestly wasn't that bad. Although a klx110 will be a lot better quality if you can afford it. At the end of the day if you want one just get one. All the haters can sit on vital laughing at you while you're actually out riding.

Used klx 110 or an "xr70 aka crf70". Or for real fun an xr 100.
