Recently, I bought a 2014 Husqvarna TC250 from a local friend/racer that had been blown up. The T-Hose sheared off in the middle of the race and ran the bike without coolant. As a result, the bike overheated, threw the crank, trashed the cases, and wedged the piston in the cylinder. For this build, I tried to go all out and start with a brand new engine, you can see the destruction below:

For start, we stripped down to the frame for a re-powdercoat.

Had to have a welder re-weld the exhaust tab where the pipe mounts above the cylinder, very common quality issue with these frames.

Spokes were seized, but the hubs were still in great condition.

Fortunately, I was able to keep my suspension from my 350 XC-F that was valved for me. Here is how it sits right now, new cases and a re-built OEM Crankshaft from fleabay was used while Powerseal USA re-plated an extra cylinder I was given with the bike. They did a top-notch job in a timely manner, as well.

It's amazing to me how such a sweet ride can be hammered dogs crap in about so little time by complete lack of maintenance.
Very few guys do anything to the linkage bearings until it's flopping around.

My factory fatty is currently being restored by Scott, up at Pacific Crest Pipe repair up in Jacksonville, OR
Here are some more pics, it's about 98% done, I need to order a different seat cover, new front and rear pads, and new rear rotor.
I love Sublime, so I figured I'd rock Lou Dawg up on the front number plate.
Before Pics of the Factory Fatty, I'll update this thread with the after when Scott sends me it back.
Money shot
My 2 cents is black swing arm guards and black rear sproket would be key!
Great graphics and colour scheme, works really well.
Was this build cost effective? So the same/cheaper/more expensive than buying a moderate condition runner and rebuilding?
Because I'm really anal, I have a running Google Doc with EVERY dollar that I've spent on this bike so far. It has been exactly $5,050 and that was far over what I had projected.
I guess there are 2 schools of thought when looking at builds like this. Could you try to find something on craigslist or a used bike showroom this clean and brand new for 5k? Probably not.
However, I have seen a few multiple 2017 KTM 250SX's in the used range near 5500, so some would argue that for 700 more, I could just get a 17. I personally don't think builds are ever going to be cost effective, not to mention my $5,050 was pretty much labor free, I had to pay for the case assembly and crank rebuild.
I've also put way more into bikes than I should have, and no you never get it back or make money. But the peace of mind and enjoyment makes it worth while. Enjoy!
YZ's are typically better to make higher power and a bit easier to lug on the trails in stock form. I've only ridden this so far at tracks, but I feel for trails I'm gonna have to wring it out a bit (But I'll cross that bridge when I get to it)
All in all, I'm super happy with how this thing pulls with red spring, it's an absolute monster with race gas in it
