Hopefully things will continue to look better and better for Jeremy. My friend's son fell off of a swing a couple of weeks ago and split his head from ear to ear (literally) and his brain swelled. The swelling went down enough that the doctors could close his head up but he is still in a medically induced coma and sometimes you just have to wait these things out and hope/pray for the best. Please keep us updated. Thanks.

From RacerX:

In speaking directly to Costa Rican Journalist, Jose Luis Rodriguez, journalist for the largest newspaper in Costa Rica, La Nacion (www.nacion.com) who covered Jeremy’s terrible crash and subsequent hospitalization, here are the facts, to date, as we know them:

- Jeremy Lusk was transported to Calderon Hospital in San Jose, where he now remains in a medically induced coma, in stable, but very critical condition where doctors are closely monitoring the swelling on his brain.
- Post-crash, suspected brain trauma required immediate surgery to treat a subdural hematoma on the brain.
- Surgery lasted 4 hours and 30 minutes.
- X-rays were done to the neck and spinal column and no breaks are being reported by hospital.
- When asked about injuries to other parts of his body, hospital is not reporting other injuries at this time.
- Jeremy was attended to by the head of neurological surgery, Dr. Jorge Ramirez.
- Doctors report that they will know more Jeremy’s future prognosis within the next crucial 36 to 48 hours.

Contact has been made with the Critical Care Trauma Unit at Calderon hospital, where the unit charge tech, confirmed all of the information above.

His wife Lauren, and her Dad, arrived in Costa Rica early this morning–Brian Deegan and others left Southern California early this morning bound for the Costa Rican hospital.

Communication with Costa Rica, via the Embassy, the media and the hospital will continue all throughout the day therefore, updates will certainly be released as we get them. Please note we are getting all of our information in Spanish and then translating it out for release.

We had a local rider that had a serious head injury a few years back. It was a couple months before the swelling to his brain went down. The news so far is very encouraging. Keep fighting Jeremy im praying for you......

Update what we have heard so far as of 8am PST 2/8/09:
-He made it through the surgery which was great because they only gave a 5% chance of that.
-They had to drain a hematoma from the skull.-He has an enlarged brain so they could not close his skull back up, they have to wait for swelling to go down.
-The next 24 hours is critical, so please keep praying! He did get a fever but they are controlling that.
-The promoter has been great getting stuff organized for the family. Lauren and his dad will have a phone line to update people from the hospital.
-It has been about 7 hours since the surgery. Some family is there already whole others are trying to get emergency passports. Please pray for favor in that situation as well.-
They are not even attempting to work on anything else right now, the most important is to get him stabilized.

Keep the BS out of here!! This is serious and as a community, we need to be supportive of such a serious crash and injury. Not to mention it is in another country away from the people that can help him the most, his family!!

Thoughts and prayers are with the Lusk family
Right now he is with his family here in Costa Rica! And with excellents doctors that are doing the best for him!!!!!

Just pray! That is the best thing you can do!

Oh my god, that was horrible. I hate to offend the freestylers here, but the backflip is a liability to your sport. This is the awful outcome of what can happen with the slightest error. I caught the longer version of this run, and although it was spectacular, Lusk seemed to have hit hard landing the flip more than once. Maybe the wind was intense as stated earlier. May god be with him and his family.

From RacerX

"- X-rays were done to the neck and spinal column and no breaks are being reported by hospital. "

Hopefully MRIs will confirm this. Amazing this could be true after watching that video and with no neck brace.

Do you remember the Metal Mulisha's website had video clips of people plunging to their death on motorcycles in stunts gone bad?

Weird, but I thought of it as a reality check on what could happen when someone recklessly turns their family's life upside down. I do believe that Lusk was smart enough to know what could have happened. With that said, lets hope that this may deter a kid from doing the same to his family. Remember, when the Metal Mulisha throws this up on their site, you saw it on Vital first.

I agree.

This is a time to pray for Jeremy, his family, and friends in this very difficult time. Out of respect to Jeremy, his family, and everyone around him, I strongly suggest that no one view the video of the accident.

We're pulling for you Jeremy!
