Not all Redwings are made in America. The Irish Setters are Chinese made. I used Redwing Logger until i broke my foot. I loved those boots. Once broken in I could motor all day long in them. I switched to Hathorn boots by White. Those were excellent until I retired. My boots were used for firefighting so as an all around boot I don't have any practical experience.

I purchase diehard boots at Sears and they seem to hold up better (IMO)
I'm on my feet all day in my shop(concrete floor) & they insulate my feet well
You can resole the red wings but what good is it if the uppers wear out?,

I used to get the Diehards but something happened to the quality about 10 years ago. They didn't seem to last. Then I noticed that they were being made in China. I started buying Herman Survivors. They are way cheaper but last just as long. They feel good on my feet too. I wear mine 10 hours a day when I'm working but I'm not in extreme conditions. As long as they feel good and last about a year, I'm down. The Diehards are probably made at the same Chinese factory as the Hermans but they are twice as much. No point in that.

Herman used to be right up there with Danner as far as quality but not any more. Not since Walmart bought them out.
This is kind of funny. I bought those Hermans in April of 2013, a few months before I posted that. I'm still wearing them. I wore them today but my feet hurt. Time to part with another $50. I don't put them through the same paces as some of you guys and I'm pretty low income so I have to look for value. The Diehards were pretty good back in the 80's and 90's.

The reason I know when I bought them is because I keep a file with dates and when I buy stuff. It comes in handy when I'm trying to evaluate a purchase.

I live in work boots. Alot of Red Wings made in China now.

Made in America-employee owned.
I had a pair of Thorogoods. Very well crafted boots, but they don't have a narrow enough sole for me unfortunately. I've sung their praises and converted a few people. I always appreciated that they were Union made in America.

I went to a Thorogood dealer to get fitted and order a pair. The quality was excellent but I just couldn't wear them. Many of my Brothers sing their praises though.
When "White's" was bought out by Lacrosse (foreign owned) after being a loyal customer since 1994 I switched to Nick's boots which are also custom made in Spokane, very pleased with this decision. I went to their old shop and got fitted and was impressed with the whole operation. I also like the looks of "Wesco Boots" made in Portland.

This is my 4th pair of Twisted X. I love the fit of them. And no I don't sit all day like this, it's too hot. I just enjoy my coffee outside.

These are by far my favorite work boot. About $140 from cabelas. I cant wear insulated boots (feet get way too sweaty) but these things keep my feet nice and warm in the winter but not too hot in the summer. Typically im on concrete all day in the shop and i get about a year out of these. May not be the best as far as longevity but for constantly being on concrete, soaked in oil and fuel, they hold up great. It also works out our yearly boot allowance is $150 bucks lol.

The amount of replies has really touched my "sole."

On a serious note it is nice to know about options. I really like the boots lostboy819 posted with the side zipper. Some days I have remove my boots frequently and a zipper sure would be nice.

BTW do you know what Scots wear kilts? Sheep can hear a zipper a mile away.

NOTE: I'm part Scot so no disrespect intended.

Also like the Ariat boots that HD1200 posted. My next pair will either be the Tactical or Ariat.

40 years commercial construction been thru about every boot made including Red wings which I took back after a day. Just didn't feel good plus my feet started hurting after about 6 hours at work.

Bought a pair of Rocky's (Have many different types) They were comfortable from day one to 2 years after. Can stand in a moving stream all day and your socks will be dry.
Worked in Masonry so a pair of boots lasting a year was great, they lasted two so I stayed with them ever since.

As a kid who grew up in Rankin, this was a familiar pose. And guilty as charged. Wink

Always be careful where you get your boots resoled . I had the local cobbler do a pair of Thorogoods and it gave me planta fashitas ( spelling) . It took a not 2 years to get rid of it , painful as shit too .

Think it's time? Got 4 years out of them but the reviews now are really bad. The old Herman Survivors are history.
Worked in tennies today. Not good. Need to break down and get something non China.

Love my Red Wings. I splurge and get the made in America line, at my local boot shop. Which makes them way too expensive. Reminds me of a Guy Clark song.

Ah yes, I too came here to plug Twisted !

As a former oilfeild welder, I can say they hold up great and are by far the most comfortable boots I've worn to date. PLUS, they make those steel toe moccasins, which kick ass!
