I've had laughing gas at the dentist and it wore off pretty quick. I was fine to drive home. Makes you wonder if it's such a good idea for kids.

That doesn't look like nitrous to me. That looks like something much stronger and way too much by the looks of it.

You might be right. I don't find that all that funny.

Don't know what it's called but they do give a drug to kids that are a bit freaked out about the dentist where they don't remember a thing about the appointment. I've never seen the after effects though and not sure if that is what this kid had. That would scare the shit out of me if that was my kid.

reading the dads comments it seems like the kid had major surgery done, he had an extra tooth or something that had to removed. This was during the summer the kid is doing fine now apparently, 3,000,000 hits he'll probably be on the tonight show next week.

If a kid that young had enough dental work to require stitches then he must of had a pretty banged up mouth and they probably had to put him under.

If he had major work done he may have had IV anesthesia, in which case he'd be pretty out of it for a while til it wore off, just like any adult that gets knocked out to have their wisdom teeth taken out by an oral surgeon. Nitrous wouldn't have that effect afterwards because it just wears off too quickly. He probably wouldn't be that fucked up even while on the nitrous. After nitrous you put them back on oxygen for a few minutes and they are right back to normal - and even if you don't put them on oxygen after they'll still be fine after 5-10 minutes just from breathing regular air (although they might be a little nauseous if no oxygen given afterwards).
If he wasn't put under with an IV, he could have had an injection of Demerol with Vistaril or Versed. The Versed has pretty major amnesia effects afterwards, which is probably what augiedog is talking about.
When my kid broke his arm in half skateboarding, I met them at the hospital and watched them set his arm. They had him on a Versed IV and he wasn't very out of it, and screamed louder and longer than I've ever heard a human scream while they set the bones. Then 5 minutes later he was asking me when they were going to set his arm.
While he was screaming the ortho said he'd squawk a bit but he won't remember it. I was thinking the Dr. was nuts, but sure enough my kid remembered nothing at all.

Because it was funny, it happens everyday. I was fucked up as a soup sandwich when I got my wisdom teeth removed. That was pre vid cam days, but my Mom said she wished she'd had film of the ride home.

The lad was right as rain an hour later, I'd bet...Just in more pain. Relax Oprah.

Oh, and for the dude in CT. I know you can't make a sandwich from soup, it's humor...again.

The guy said the kid was scared going in, so he wanted to do a before and after video to show the kid it wasn't a big deal - which sounds reasonable to me. It turned out to be funny (enough to draw nearly 5 million hits on youtube), so why not post it? It's not like he gave the kid a crack pipe to play with and pulled out the video camera.
When I was in dental school a buddy of mine who was in my class had his wisdom teeth pulled under sedation by the oral surgery residents, and I picked him up to drive him home. He was still buzzing pretty good when we got in the car, and he says, "Dude, crank up some metal and let's cruise the lakefront so I can enjoy this shit before it wears off."
