I also remember Larry Huffman sometimes taking a half a lap to notice a lead change.
Any chance of elaborating on the awkward Larocco moment? A specific race will do.

I'm not sure about anyone else but I found daytonas announcing to be probably the worst I have heard in a while, just awful. Several times you hear "ooohhhhhhh" with no follow up, the same old crap. Jeff and Ricky going back and forth of the huckabuck. No word on bogle not qualifying etc. It's getting harder to listen. I think supercross desperately needs Jason weidgant and perhaps Mcgrath in the booth, I like Ralph but Jeff just doesn't give enough insight and is very conservative Imo. This is all subjective and is purely my opinion.
Jeff's commentary is much worse when Ricky is also there. I'm not sure why, I have my theories and even though I know they are friends, it changes the dynamic. It's like Jeff no longer knows his role since Ricky always wants to step in and be the technical authority from the rider's perspective, which is normally Jeff's forte.

I agree with the OP. Ralph shouldn't even be an announcer and Jeff just wants to plug sponsors the whole time. Meanwhile they add Ricky to comment on his own track the entire time. Then every few minutes Ricky strokes himself about his track, which was by far the worst Daytona layout I've seen in years.

I don't remember the race. Jerry was trying to be funny. LaRocco wasn't playing along.

I hate bagging on the announcers, because they have a much harder job than most realize, and Jeff/Ralph do way better than just about everyone gives them credit for. Plus in full disclosure I think they do a good job 90% of the time.

Daytona did suck, and in my personal opinion it was because of RC. Jeff and RC have a horrible dynamic, and RC doesn't really add anything of value. My vote would be to only ever let him do track side reporting and keep him out of the booth.

How about no talking and we just get to hear the bikes?

Or even better, he could watch the races from the VIP lounge while eating a pizza or take a nap in the RCH rig.

This. I agree they are all good. I've announced some local bicycle races and it's tuff work. You always need to be filling airspace while nothing is going on, then switching gears to the action, then back to the dead air. I am fairly certain that these SX and MX announcers need to also make sure to shamelessly plug all supporters of the support.

"We are now 15 minutes through the moto, which reminds me, you can save 15% or more on car insurance through Geico!"

RC is a great motorcycle racer, but I am afraid his competitive nature does not vibe well in a booth where announcers need to "share" mic time. That "huckabuck" correction was nonsense and killed the natural flow of the conversation/announcing. RC seems to be great at that.
