Glad somebody else is thinking this. Dungey might not be willing to hang it out right now...might not be willing to risk it all, but he still knows how to manage a points lead...

If this is his last year, he's going to go out on his terms & on top...like RV.

No, Dungy had 29 points on Eli going into this race. Lost 5 and the spread is as stated 24. So he did not gain, but LOST 5 points. Think about it. How can you gain points on a guy when that guy in in front of you.

You guys talk about shit like this? At the post race conference he said he had a close call and even went off the track. That might have put him off the pace a little bit. My god you find stupid things to talk about.

Dungey is not riding like he normally does, My bet is He's either had an injury or illness.

2 more weeks and He will be back He was better lastnight but He is not riding like He has in the past.

I think there are two possibilities for why Marvin caught The Dunge.

1. Marvin is training hard throughout the week and is faster than Ryan right now.

2. The Minnesota Vikings style gear made him choke at the end of the race like the Vikings do at the end of every season.

Or maybe its both.

Dungey is dong what he does best, managing points on off race days. He will be fine.

Managing points? Marv closed the gap, Eli closed the gap. He is losing points. Not managing them.

I watched the race at 3:30 this morning when I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep so I wasn't 100% but anyone else see Eli Tomac from outdoors 2015? I'm not sure that will work any better indoors over the long run than it did outdoors, on the other hand Marvin looked to be completely within his comfort zone. If Dungey has anyone to worry about it's his teammate.

Worrying about his teammate Marv is a nice "problem" to have for Roger and KTM. My 3rd place championship points reference above was just playing with numbers. Seely was 22 down last week and Tomac is 24 down this week and has moved into 3rd.

Good for Eli that he made up 5 points, though. Could be a Bradshaw kind of year for him. 9 or 10 wins, but doesn't win the championship.

RD was caught and passed. MM had the best lines of the night and made them work.

Looked like he was tired.
Should hire John Tomac.

This weekend was the first weekend where he lost points to the rider who is second in points. It was at 16 before last weekend, went up to 18 and is now back to 16. You cannot argue this fact, but you will try.

Don't forget MM caught Ryan because of RD almost wadding up in the dragons back section. His over 5 second lead over his team mate was gone when he re entered the track. Marv was right on him after that..

Point being? Fact is, he is losing points. mistake or no mistake. This Dungey isnt the rock solid Dungey everyone is used to. That cant be denied. Id be surprised if he signs another contract after this one expires. I honestly think hes made up his mind to finish it out, try and win some titles, but more importantly, survive without injury. And if thats the case, i commend him for it. He doesnt have anything left to prove or win. He can hang it up and sleep well at night knowing hes been one of the greatest ever.

manage - succeed in surviving or in attaining one's aims, especially against heavy odds Yes, by that definition, Dungey managed the points last night.

You can lose points and manage them at the same time. As the Nascar folks would say, "I had a 3rd place car". Dungey was a 3rd place rider last night. He gave it a go, it didn't work, and he brought it home in 3rd. He didn't throw the championship away by going over the top with Eli or throwing it away trying to keep Marvin from passing him. Those 20 points are much better than zero. Point being, he's managing the points and managing the championship. A lot left in the tank for the red plate number 1.

If the next 5 races are carbon copies of last night:
Tomac leades Dungey by 1 point and Marvin by 7.

Just thought I'd chime in since nobody has really mentioned it... I was at the race and Dungey got WAY sketchy on the dragonback section. He got kicked and was really close to another Bogle/Martin crash. He saved it but rode off the side of the track and had to wait to re-enter until that next 90 degree right. Lost a ton of time obviously. They showed multiple replay's of it at the stadium but I just watched the TV broadcast at home and was disappointed they didn't catch it.
