Fellow cord cutting experts,

If I buy this Amazon Fire TV box with KODI below will I be able to watch local news live? I'm in Southern California and local news channels are KTLA 5, and KCAL 9. I have a fast internet connection so speed is not an issue.

It's looking like I would have a one time fee of $143.95 for the box and that's it? And I would need one box per TV correct? Sounds too good to be true, let me know.

Everything that they call jailbroken can be done with a standard Amazon firestick or box and an hour of watching youtube. As for local channels, unless you're in the middle of nowhere all you need is an antenna.

Yeah, I've heard you have to rotate the antenna depending on which set of channels you want to watch. Is this true? Any digital TV antenna experts here? The hope was to have the box take care of local news, let me know.

We only get one local station, I was told they are working toward getting all but so far nothing else. I pay $30 and have every channel from the larger package that I want.

You can also watch shows that have already happened, I don't know how far back but I watched something that I hadn't DVRd an hour after it ended.

Yes to all your questions. $25-$50, variation for packages, give or take a couple of bucks. Month to month. I get one live local with VUE. But, I use the antenna and get like 40 air channels. Quality is excellent with air. Antennas are easy.

Watch VUE on one input, and TV on the other. Switch back and forth with the remote.

ESPN, ESPN 2, FS1,FS2, etc., live channels.

Get the regular Amazon Fire Tv box direct from Amazon. I'll help you load Kodi. It takes like 5 minutes. Just PM me and I'll do it for you.

If you want to really cut the cord the legal way, then signup for Play Station VUE and download the app to your Fire Tv box. You can get SX and motocross races through that. And a whole bunch of legit stuff.

I pay $65?a month a get most of my local channels, 100+ cable channels, plus Showtime and HBO.

I'm don't recommend any pirated content on Kodi. It's sketchy, it's illegal, and a lot of the time quality sucks. Kodi also has legit stuff, but a lot of what you think is available is through pirated contract. Which I don't recommend.

If you want to do it the legit way, I'll walk you through every step.

Cheers.

It works, but the picture quality is not that great. I just got rid of it for that.

Check your setup. I stream VUE in HD and have a great picture. LAN optimization can make a noticeable difference.

I dumped dish, hated life without it and went back to their cheapest package without being able to record stuff.

Now....I use a combination of both worlds, happy again!

It's always recording and saving in the cloud like the last 5-8 episodes of every channel. Which I think is a pretty awesome feature. That's in addition to being able to record your own specific shows.

I give PlayStation Vue a big thumbs up. I have the lower plan and SX has looked and operated flawless. I did not like sling TV, the quality was up and down.

I also have fire TV and Kodi, it's OK for some things live TV isn't one of them from my experience.

Kodi can be used for lots of things. I primarily use it as the front end to my own personal media library. I have thousands of music files, over a thousand moves that I purchased on DVD and backed-up to mp4's and a family photo library of over 300k photos. Kodi makes an exceptional front end to view all of this type of personal media content.

Ive been using the firestick with PS Vue and its great.

I dont watch a lot of regular tv so it seems to have everything I need. I went with the middle of the road pack on Vue.

I also have netflix and Kodi so im set with watching shows and movies.

Saving me around 120 a month.

Nice! Always good to see that savings. I'm saving around $120 a month as well after leaving DirecTV.

I tried running VUE on a Fire Stick and the streaming worked just fine. Only thing I had a problem with is the guide was annoyingly slow. I switched over to a Fire TV Box and guide is much faster now.

Damn I forgot to respond to this. I pay $44 a month I think. Get FS!, FS2, ESPN, NFL Network. All the locals are included and they all look great. I guess they are having a contract dispute with Comedy Central right now but oh well. Not a huge deal. I think the highest package was $79 for all the movie channels. I have Netflix too and feel like I've got just about everything i need right now.

The recording is pretty solid. And a lot of stuff on demand as well. I guess the biggest drawback is you can only have it on one TV. But I read somewhere that it can work with I believe Apple TV, Chromecast, and a few of the others.

One TV? That's definately incorrect. You can stream on up to 5 devices simultaneously. We do three all the time no problem. I believe the limit is 5. You just need some kind of device at each TV. For example, we have an Amazon Fire TV box for every TV. It's not only used for VUE but we use them for list of other things too.

A cable user pays $7 every month for espn, and they don't even carry moto.

They pay $1.9 billion a year to the NFL just for Monday Night Football

They need to get back to cheap mx and mud bog racing!

I think he is referring to the fact that he only has one Playstation

...but like you said it works on many devices...we have Apple TV's, PS3, and PS4. Also works on computer, phone etc. Cheapest route is phone app + chromecast.

Another Vue user here. We have it set up on multiple Roku devices and one with a Fire TV. We ditched cable about a year ago and between Vue, Netflix, Hulu, and an antenna we haven't missed anything. Dropped a $220 DirecTV bill to around $70 for all of our services.

Correct that is what I was talking about.

I have the app on my phone too and it works great. Logging in on a laptop is great too.

Just bought a set of tires for the dirt scooter with this months savings!

I have noticed my guide is a little slow as well, I thought about getting the Fire TV Box for my living room and running the Fire stick in my bedroom and garage.

Good to know the box works better, thanks!

What speed of internet is everyone using? In my town we have 3 speeds 6mg,10mg, and 20mg. Just wondering since our 10mg works just fine for streaming on netflix and what not but has hiccups sometimes and that is due to us not having enough bandwidth.

So, hands down, what is the best set up? I am okay with some illegal streaming. I've been wanting to cut the cord for a long time, but my wife insists that it will be a mistake. I rarely watch TV except for a few prime time shows during the week and MX SX on the weekends.

My wife has multiple shows that she enjoys watching every night, so that is why she is apprehensive about cutting the cord.

So which set-up would get me all prime time shows live, and be reliable? Does the Fire TV Box do this?

I am sick of paying Time Warner $160 per month for ONE DVR cable box (we don't even have cable in our bedroom), and internet.

Just to double up on this, we had a stick and my wife was going nuts about how slow the guide was. Switched to the box and she is very happy with it. I'd say the best Vue devices in order are

1. PS3/4
2. Fire TV Box
3. Apple TV - 3rd only because of price. Similar interface to Fire TV devices.
4. Roku - Plenty fast but has a poor interface.
5. Fire TV Stick - Guide is annoyingly slow.
