RMZ brakes on RM250

Who's done it ? I was thinking of trying to fit a Brembo caliper on the front, but making a caliper bracket isn't going to be cheap..,
I've been told that the rear might bolt up and also the front. I'm ready to pull the trigger on some good used RMZ calipers, anyone got info on years that will work for sure ? Thanks in advance.

The front brake system from my 15 RMZ450 was a direct swap onto my 2008 RM250, due to the fact that they are identical brake systems.
You may want look into seeing if a 16 RMZ caliper will fit as these are the latest offerings from Nissin and are said to be much lighter while maintaining performance?

I've not tried the rear brake system from the RMZ onto my RM yet. The master cylinder assembly looks very similar but the caliper is a different design. I will have a go at swapping it across at some point and report back.

Also Ride Engineering make a very trick front caliper that I have heard good things about (made for RMZ's so in theory should fit RM's with no issue)

I had an 02 RM125 and an 06 RM250. The 125 always stopped on a dime and the 250 didn't. It always had a mushy feel on the front brake no matter how new the fluid was or how I bled it. I ended up finding an 02 master cylinder on Ebay for like $20 so, I decided to give it a try. It made a huge difference. The thing stops way better and the spongy feel is gone. You may give it a try. Worst case, you sell it again on Ebay.

I don't see why the 2016 rmz caliper wouldn't work now that I think about if. If you say the 2015 rmz 450 caliper mounts up just fine. 2015 and 2016 rmz 450 both have same forks so the fork lug should be the same, both the 2015 and 2016 have the same front brake rotor. So unless the adapter changed it should work fine right.....?

I think the only gamble would be trying to use a pre 16 bracket and a 16 caliper. If you were to use both a 16 bracket and caliper then yes it should theoretically fit no problem as like you said, the fork lug spacing and disc dimension hasn't changed.

From my experience and from what I have read, front brake systems are relatively universal. I have fitted a '10 YZ250 front brake system to the RM in the past to get me out of trouble. And I've seen threads of people fitting CR/CRF brake systems to their RM's with no issue.
As long as you have the correct bracket for the forks, then most Nissin calipers of a similar era should mount onto it. I guess this is a manufacturing move by Nissin so they only need to make 1 caliper that will fit several bikes with just a different bracket to adapt it to the fork lugs.

We just need someone to step up and try the swap lol. I'd mount a 2016 rmz caliper to my rm if it works lol

It won't work I tried a 13 rear brake swap on my 07 and the axle diameters are different! I guess you could make a sleeve for the bracket but it will not just bolt on unfortunately

And I went the Honda brake set up front. Night and day better

Sorry to bump this up.

The rear brake on my RM 250 08 is jacked up. Anyone know if something other then OEM fits on it. Cannot find a used one anywhere.

On the rear? Have you done this? Pics would be ace if you have.

I'm also still chasing for a new rear brake set up on my RM but haven't sorted anything yet. Still can't stomach the £270 OEM price for a caliper and carrier Sick

Current RMZ calliper will work, pre 4 bolt disc models will swap discs too. Yamaha YZF discs will bolt straight onto RM/RMZ 6 bolt hubs.

CRF & new KXF callipers will work also. Current KXF callipers share same caliber bracket, my motostuff brake says KXF/RMZ on it.

Ride engineering Billet RMZ calliper is direct fit, Motostuffs billet caliber will bolt straight on also.

What year RM do you have? I think they got an updated calliper in 05 with new motor and frame, I think dbrunski125 was going to mount a newer model on his?

Not sure if new CRF calliper will work. had a 1996 - 2002 280mm CR bracket & YZF disc on my first try at the Motostuff setup, CR bracket held the calliper too far out on the radius of the disc. Current Set up is current model YZF disc and current model RMZ/KXF Calliper. Not sure if CRF calliper will bolt on, not sure what the new bracket is like. Check Ride engineering or Motostuff website to see what models their callipers work on and use above info to see if CRF calliper will work...

He is asking about a rear caliper, and an RMZ rear caliper or carier 100% does not fit. I have a 2015 RMZ450, I tried to swap across and it will not work.

I think you are talking about the front brake, in which case yes there are a lot of other systems and set ups that bolt directly onto the RM.

For the rear though it doesn't seem as straight forward.

Thank you for the reply. I'll just order a new one.
