They have to go full tilt for two 30 minute moto's. Always wondered what would happen if they rode full tilt for two 45 minute moto's Monday through Friday. Shouldn't that be enough? Plus they are training directly the exact muscles and cardio needed.
I always wondered the exact thing.

That's probably the worst thing they could do. Rest is one of the most important factors in training. Your body would never recover, just get beat and end up with loads a niggles/ injuries. Need variation, to do that week in week out would be so mentally draining you'd be so fatigued you'd probably end up slower than when you started

villopoto was doing (6) 35 min motos per week tues, wed, thurs besides the cycling and off bike training in 2007. Getting enough calories would be a job in itself.

I think the amount of training is the same. Guys worked hard in the 90's just like guys work hard today. I think biggest difference between the two is the level of knowledge and specialization is much greater now when it comes to nutrition, supplements, exercises, recovery, etc.

more isn't necessarily better in this case. guys like tomac and dungey train less (volume) than oshow and ward did but they also train smarter due to much more information about training, nutrition and recovery nowadays.

Club Metro? As in Riverside? Haven't heard that name in about 30 years.

Road bikes were a big thing. Used to see O'show riding around Simi Valey to Thousand Oaks to Westlake Village on a very regular basis.
