Just curious. What would be the difference if someone had a 125 motor in a super mini chassis, but sold it as a 125? Idk let's just say Service Honda said. Hey, lets build these bike for kids to grease and call them Service Honda 125's. Shorter wheel base, probably say still 25 pounds lighter. You and your neighbor still going to be butt hurt all because Zach was a little stump growing up that happen to be a bad ass mini rider that transformed into one of the top elite racers in the world?
They wouldnt have a class to race in with a 125 motor in a super mini.

That would get contested instantly and not allowed to race at least where I am. It would have no class to race in according to ama rules.

Just curious. If it is built by the rule in which you say is in the ama rules. Now I am not saying there is no rule in the ama rulebook about qualifications of machinery . If it is built off the rule though, why wouldn't it be allowed to race? Have you read the actual rule or know the actual rule for ama?

CC max for two stroke supermini is 112 cc's. Wheel sizes are too small for 125/250f classes. Could maybe be a schoolboy 1 possibility, however, it would be a one off bike which would not be on a list of approved bikes.

Although, local races could allow anything.

I think you should re-read what I said. I never said anything about racing a super mini chassis with a 125 motor in the super mini class. I am fully aware of the wheelbase requirements. Did you see at the top on the rule list it says for limited classes? First we won't be racing any mod bike for this matter in a limited class.

In a stock or limited class you are right you can't race it. A mod class has a few different rules. And you have also said it yourself. Local races could allow anything. This usually does happen on a local level and in my eye is perfectly fine. It is also ok in ama in the rules are followed .

Also do you know what it takes to have a bike approved? Amateur racing is very different then pro racing.

Since you're talking about a super mini 79cc-112cc . Do you know what the max wheel size and wheelbase is? Wheels are 19 inch front and 16 inch rear. Same size as the minimum requirement that qualifies any mini bike to be able to race a bigger bike class. Since this is only a 112cc. You are right, it wouldn't be allowed in ama racing, unless ama said it was ok. Which it even says in the rule that they can... So this bike would only be allowed to race in the super mini class as well as the school boy 1, and if your rider is a girl she could also race it in either women 12+ or girls senior 12-16yrs. The girls class does have a 52 max wheelbase, and max size of 19 inch front with 16 inch max rear.

This mean I can change the wheel base and race said bike of a super mini chassis with a 122cc -125cc motor, a minimum wheelbase of 53 inches and race it in any non limited division class that it qualifies for.
EX: School boy 1 it still qualifies for
125 a/b/c non limited divisions
250 a/b/c non limited divisions
14-24 yrs 122cc-open non limited divisions
open class 122cc-open
women 12+ 99cc-250cc note that women's class does not have a 53 inch wheelbase requirement, it is smaller. Could even qualify for some two stroke classes at amateur nationals.

Yeah, I may have misunderstood part of what you were meaning. Really, the other scenarios you presented are beyond my scope.

Why dump thousands into a Super mini when the kid is 12 and gonna grow like a weed? My dad gave us bone stock 85s knowing we wouldn't be on them long.

Actually my dad knew that I would beat the same guys if I had a full blown supermini or my blown out '97 CR80.

He also knew I would know how to spell.

Lastly, he knew that a successful supermini career meant nothing in the big picture, and that most top 85 riders never pan out to legitimate pros.
