Hey guys, I wonder if there is some kind of list of copyrighted logos for mx decals I can't use?

Another question: is it possible to get permission from those companies? How?

I think for the most part they don't care.

Its free advertising. Wanna put their logo on some decals and sell multiple copies? Now you might have a problem.....

Yeah that's what I mean. I need to know which logos are copyrighted and if it's possible to get a permission to use them to avoid those problems?

You can search the U.S. Patent and Trademark records at
https://www.uspto.gov/trademarks-application-process/search-trademark-d…

Not all businesses will take the time and effort to protect their logos and such but
you can count on getting into a fight regardless if you use it and they get pissed.
They'll claim prior use and it is just a matter of who wants to pay their lawyers more.

To get permission you have to ask the company that owns the logo directly.
Tell them what you're doing and see what's up.

If you are just making some graphics for your own bike, I wouldn't even bother.
But like others have said, if you plan to sell some, or for in some other way
that is deemed commercial use, yeah, you want to cover your ass and get permission.

I use to produce graphics. Most will give you permission and send you their proper logo file to use...Fly, fxr, etc. The big ones will flat tell you no...Fox. Red Bull. They want to "preserve their brand."

There's a LOT of logos that can not be used for graphic companies. I know that KTM charges every graphic company to even print their logos on the graphics and it isn't cheap...Monster is another one that is exclusive to N-Style, as far as I know. As is the 5rh dragon logo that was used on the Yamaha of Troy and also Suzuki and Honda of Troy bikes.

I believe it. I got permission from most that my people wanted. Was fairly easy. Never did understand why some wouldn't want that logo out there where it isn't costing them a thing? Not sure how me printing the Fox head cheapens their brand? But then again I'm here posting on Vital vs flying around in a private jet. What the heck do I know.

It cheapens their brand because they can't control the quality that you produce. Color, resolution, and actually using an old/incorrect logo all affect their image.

You may not see a big deal with it, but branding is a big part of a company's strategy and business plan.

Big No-No's without permission or a pay as you print charge:
Honda
Yamaha
KTM
WP
Red Bull
Monster

probably many more, but those are the ones that I've seen send cease and desist letters.

Uh EVERY logo of the companies in question is copyrighted. The question is, which ones allow you to print them?

Interesting story about Red Bull Logo.

I was handling the marketing for a regional arena cross series and contacted Red Bull. The person I was dealing with sent me a check for I think $3,000. I called her back and asked her if she could email me a logo and the Branding Standards Guide for its usage. Her response?
"Oh no, you can't use our logo or in any way advertise that Red Bull is sponsoring your series. We just wanted you to have the money to further the growth of the sport."
Now that is a classy company! Monster would have wanted me to plaster that stupid claw on every visible surface.

Its funny that Monster is so picky with graphics companies because it seems like they love having that neon piss everywhere.
