I"m debating buying the conevalves right now. I have 16hrs on my bike, no issues with blown seals at all. But, the forks are not plush, no matter what I set them at they are very firm & ride high in their stroke, when I"m fresh they feel good, when I start getting tired, they feel harsh/ too stiff. They are not horrible, like my 13 Honda forks were, but some plushness the first 3-4 inches round be better. Talked to Factory Connection yesterday, 300.00 for revalve & all related parts/shipping. F/C wants 3800.00 for the conevalves all setup & delivered. That's a big difference! I guess it all comes down to how much money you are willing to lay out for the best forks. I do agree with what others have stated about never recouping your revalve money vs buying the kit forks. I will likely keep this bike for at least 2 yrs so the kit forks are starting to look more appealing. Guess I"ll call Powerband Racing & see what his quote is.

Yeah I'd call power and for sure even for the revalve. The thing with factory is they are always way over their quote, and to be honest the past two sets they e done for me they were just not even close.

That sucks bro. Hope you heal well and soon. Do you wear knee braces? It seems there are so many more tib/fib and femur breaks then there used to be.

Yeah I do wear braces it broke right at the bottom, I honestly don't know if it protected my knee or broke my leg lol. I'd take a broken femur or tib over a knee anyday though

Sorry to see your mishap. Bones heal, ACL's don't.

You'll be back a lot sooner than a knee reconstruction.

Good luck.

Not a fan of the K-tech spring conversion. I got a softer spring and it was a bit to soft so it bottomed out pretty easily.

But i wasn't a fan of the feel of the work. It felt incredibly weird in the jump faces and the way the left springfork is so much more heavy than airfork made it feel weird and it made it feel like it was more difficult to turn right than turn left.

I guess i'm used to the air fork now. The K-Tech internals are coming off the fork.

The next step would be the CV forks, but i can't pull that amount of money upfront at the moment.

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and have a deposit down and waiting for a 17 1/2 FE. Any more updates on how everyone is liking there FE's? This will be my second KTM, first one was a 1996 250 SX! Showing my age on that one!

Hey guys, I plan on keeping my 16.5 FE for next year. I have 32.0hrs on it, always maintained meticulous. How long should I go before having top end replaced & everything inspected? Sr, A rider....I used to have my Honda"s rebuilt at 50.hrs. Is there anything specific to Ktm"s to look out for? Thanks...

My 16 250f went 50 hours on the top end and didn't check the valves once before I brought it in for a check up.. I switched out the bottom end at 75.

Talking to the media guys at KTM, they had the new 250fs go 75+ hours with no valve adjustments and no parts changed.

So depending on how you ride the bike and which size you have, they are pretty bullet proof!

Thanks Joe, I"ve got some decent sand hrs on the bike, a bit higher rev"s than normal. I"ll play it safe & have top end replaced at 50.hrs....

How you doing? Hope recovery is going well. I ended up having surgery on my humerus about 2 months late so still healing. I also have radial nerve palsy which caused me to lose function of my wrist and hand. If it doesn't come back relatively soon, I might have to sell my bikes

I think 50 hrs on a 450 may be a bit premature. If everything looks good I would assume 75 would hopefully be more realistic next time. I remember dirtbike mag or maybe dirt rider? Did a tear down of a 350 and a 300 ktm at 100hrs and they said everything was still in spec.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Talking with Bill (Midway Cycles) he is saying he will starting getting information on the 17 1/2 FE's around January or February and he would expect delivery around march or April based on his previous years experience. I was going to get a 17 but after talking with the wife she recommended just waiting for the next FE! Glad I have a wonderful wife!!! I can say it still is hard waiting that long but she tells me it will be worth it.

I have 48h on my and i have no plans on getting a new piston. I'm sure that most riders can make it to at least 70h. Planning on changing the piston after 70-75h.

I actually thought about getting the 17 FE but i'm not sure. 48h on a very well maintained 450 is nothing and the bike prices drop fast here in Finland. I could probably only get around 6k for my 16 FE with 48h on it.

Just wanted to get an idea of what everyone has done with their engines, I"m sure these engines can go 100 hrs with an old guy riding it, but I have found it is a lot cheaper to be pro active with engine maintenance.

So I started the bike for the first time....warmed it up....and did a short (slow) run...it has 0,2 hours on the clock now.....I noticed that there is an oil leak on the bottom side of the engine. It seems the oil is coming out from the center of the cases...

Anyone experienced this? It makes me sick thinking the engine will be taken apart on a brand new bike:-(((

When I bought my bike early this year, the dealers first bike (mine was second) was back in the shop getting a motor replaced by KTM due to oil leaking out through the metal on the case. They said it was a manufacturing defect or something like that. So talk to your dealer.

Do you have a skidplate on your bike ? Is it aluminium skidplate ? Those can make your bike vibrate alot. I had a works connection aluminium skidplate and vibrated like hell ! Now I have one in plastic insteed ...no vibration

No skid plate... so no vibrations? I feel vibration on the handelbars and tank, frame... Is it possible that motor mounts are too tight?

Don't notice anymore vibrations on my bike than any other noisy 4 stroke...I did think my muffler was loose many times, I would check all mounting bolts, none were ever loose...then I took seat off & found a lot of loose bolts holding rear fender, battery box ect. Also notice one of my upper subframe bolts must have been loose & the head of the bolt was sheared off...! I was able to get the rest of the bolt out & replaced it. I also lost 2 front fender bolts..I went through & used loc tite on all the bolts, no issues since. Check all your nuts & bolts & both wheel spokes also.. 40 hrs on mine & love it...

I'm in the same boat. I'm at just over 40 hrs and lost several bolts within the first couple hours, but haven't had much of an issue since. I didn't loctite anything, but did use antisieze on a lot of bolts and retorqued them. My only regular issue is the spokes. The ones around the rim lock loosen after every session. Keep a close eye on them. Also, I think the stock rim locks are terrible. My tires slip. So I replaced them with motion pro locks. They are a perfect fix.
As to vibration at the bars, I have no issues. I did ride the previous gen bike and I thought those were a nightmare with vibration.
Oh, and if you do a strong block pass on another rider, make sure his foot peg doesn't squarely hit your swingarm. It will blow right through! Trust me on that one. I just put a 2 inch by 3 inch hole in my swingarm this weekend.

2016 450sxf with cone valves and traxx shock. You know how everybody says the bike they have is the best? Well....I don't give a shit so I'm going to give it straight. Best bike ever! No question that it is the bike that I can go the fastest on. Awesome cockpit and the suspension is dialed (took a bit). The bike is extremely maneuverable. You can make mid turn adjustments and change the bike path easier than any other bike I've owned. Motor is good (it's a 450....of course it's good) and the controls are top notch. Great race bike. Here's the bad news......it's built to be light as shit and I think the bike does not stay together. Little mechanical things have been driving me nuts. I've never fixed/ replaced as much shit on any other bike. The wheels are very difficult to keep straight. Everything kind of gets loose quicker than some of the other brands that I own concurrently with this bike. Plastic cracks, springs break, and shit wears out. I could go into greater detail but you get the idea. Awesome bike......but I consider it a "throw away" bike. Get rid of it at 60-70 hours and get a new one.

The trade off is.....great race bike that is easy to race fast.
