They put on bling lighter stuff and did some engine mods. The power ration increased from 1 hp to every 6.2 pound to 1 hp to every 5 pound. The bike weights 200 pounds (from 217)!!! Just like a tiddler. The whole deal costed $ 10.000. though Sad

Coolest part was the twin-air aribox and subframe in carbon fiber for the price of $ 1895 (saved 2.5 pounds 1.13 kg) plus a tank in carbon (only 0.5 pound 200 grams). Titanium bolts and axles saved 3 pounds.

You guys have any tips for reduing weight? A friend of mine told me run with little fuel was the cheapest trick! Make sense!!!

Maybe some grinding would do the trick? Smile

Are you good enough of a rider that spending the money to shed a few pounds would be noticable and worth your time and $$$?

Of course not. I suck badly. But arguing the point in anything related to mx is rather pointless. Do 99,9 % of us deserves anything better than a 1991 CR 125?

I think I would notice the difference of 17 pounds, knowing that a bike like that exist alters the rudimentary objectiveness left in my brain related to motocross. I imagine this bike would make the riding experience extra fantastic.

In reality it wont, I will probably notice the less weight the first ride. But again, to question that, is to question the existence of motocross as a concept.

What weighs less??? A bike with a 1/4 tank of gas or pushing your bike back to the truck?

I did a whole lot of stuff to shed weight fom my 2001 YZ250F when I purchased it back then. Lotta money gone and now I pretty much hate the whole four stroke thing. Still have it, always will I guess unless I want to give it away. Knocked of about 20 lbs. Cheapest weight loss was Michelin S12 sand tires. Knocked off around 3 lbs. compared to the stock Dunlops. Things to keep in mind when trying to build something light is no billet aluminum triple clamps or hubs. No twinwall bars, no heavy duty inner tubes, no hd stainless spokes, no frame guards, no heavy duty chain, no extra anything. And forget the big thick graphics and decals all over the bike. It is a quick way to piss away a whole lot of money but a trick ass bike is always a pleasure to the eyes. And at some point in your life that seems to be as much fun as riding or racing.

The first thing I wanted to do was to get rid of the "top heavy" feel on my 01 model. Being that my favorite bike at the time was my low slung tricked out 74CR125 vintage racer which weighs in at under 180lbs. , the 250F definitely felt top heavy. First items were aluminum bars, magnesium triple clamps, full Ti exhaust, Ti subrame, carbon airbox and Ti shock spring. Then came all the Ti hardware, carbon bits , wet sump conversion, magnesium hubs and Ti front brake rotor. Lots of misc. crap scattered around. Did a 280 kit when it dropped a valve through the piston.....and then up through the head! Fun bike still, need to clean the carb and get it back up and running as we have a new track opening up and I need the excercise.

FMF has had this beautiful machine in the pits at the first three SX races. The weight loss on this machine is very noticeable (moving the bike around in the pits) and I can only imagine what a difference it makes while on the track.

That 91' CR125 was a good bike. I wish my 01' CR125 ran like the 91'.

If they did the same thing to a YZ125..........it would weigh around 175 lbs.

Just saying.

Good advice
How about loosing weight you calorie enhanced knuckleheads because being fat is effin it up for us people who can control our weight. Sugarless coolaid (cordial in Australia) because fatty's can't contro there weight well i like my coolaid with sugar but i am getting the rough end of the pineapple to suit the uncontrollable. I don't wnat to have to look high and low for my sugar enhanced foods, make the sugarless foods harder to find it will increase the exercise for them. WINWINWIN
we can all loose weight, it cuts the food bill down makes you happier and costs a lot less than the so called lightest 250f in the world.

Saw an interesting program on Discovery channel (Brainiacs) the other day. A challenge was put forward to see how much weight a guy could shed in one hour. He waxed his chest hair, shaved his head, cut his finger nails, had a skin peel, plucked his nose hairs, sat in a suana, and finaly had a dump and a wizz. Dropped 1.5 kg's.

I had salmonella poisoning 2 weeks ago. Dropped 6 pounds in 24 hrs.

Can't say that I would recommend it to anyone, though!

But then you'll be looking all sickly and your bike still won't be trick. Makes me wonder why the top 250F teams in the US don't take efforts to lighten their bikes up much if any at all. As high-tech as the Pro-Circuit bikes are, I'd be willing to bet they tip the scales at stock weight, maybe a tad more. Minimum weight limit is still 194 isn't it?

Back when the owner of the shop I get my bikes from used to race he would take X-Lax before his races to be as light as possible. Hah! He used to be a road racer so he was all about power to weight ratio.

Drives me crazy when mud gets stuck on the rims.
Rotating weight is so much different than dead weight.
