The track here was a dusty slate bed POS. It had staircases where the owner was going to set singlewides and make a trailer park.

We had always singled up them but these 2 doubled them up. It was amazing to watch and thinking back still is on 4 inches of travel.

It's always been amazing how some riders just see the track differently than anyone else at a given time. Where everyone saw singles, they saw doubles and made it happen. Given the physical "limits" of the bikes back then, the leaders were doing some wild stuff and the parts weren't coming out of the factories like they do now. They were made in a garage by guys experimenting to see what would work and what wouldn't.

I was debating making a new thread about my grandfather this afternoon...

He was a pretty amazing guy with a history very deep in the sport. I'd still love to hear some of DC's stories. With a new title, maybe he chimes in.

I've always had plans to make a couple of them up, out of what I have down there. One to at least resemble, a little bit, his LA winner.

Now I'm not so sure I'll get there. I even parted with a couple of them last year, to a guy who had more ambition & spare time than me. But he did produce a pristine 1975 TNT250 out of what he got from me - so I got a little bit of satisfaction out of it.

Had them in mind for retirement projects - but the way things are going, I think I'm on the Freedom85 plan....

Their bikes were soo much better than what anyone around here had. The track disappeared soon after that race so i dont think it was ever jumped by anyone else.

Man,that is so far back I'm having flashbacks of open chambers and blenzall.
