50cc bikes for kids

I started my son off with a Venom 500w electric dirt bike 24v. It's powerful enough for him and has a speed governor with 3 different speed settings. I got him this one because I would rather spend $500-600 on something he's going to grow out of, instead of a few thousand $ on a KTM or Yamaha one.
I got it from Belmonte Bikes:

Shipping only took 3 days and the bike is just as durable as any of the name brand ones...I'm satisfied...I'll buy my son a more named brand one when he stops growing out of his toys

Every kid deserves to start on a PW.
Then a CRF.
Then a Cobra.
No pee wee Dad should escape Cobra maintenance.....it's "character building".... Tongue

I just find it much easier to maintain, and if you live in a neighbourhood where you have shitty neighbours that complain about the noise of a gas dirt bike, the electric dirt bike is the way to go

PW if he has never rode before. It is a big jump from a PW up to that KTM mini even. Nevermind saw we had pulled a thread from 2013.

We have had both for grandson, just moving up to 65cc. Both have good and bad points. If I was to do it again we would have skipped PW and gone straight to mini adventure.

PW50, great for learning basics. Adjustable throttle stop helps with the old heart rate to start with. But very soon lack of power/ acceleration soon begins to show. Size quickly grows out of it. Suspension, very poor and very little.

KTM50 Mini Adventure. Takes a while to master it. This can be tamed down with a sleeve in carb. When this is no longer fast enough you can bolt on a bigger pipe & carb and then this things GOES!! Bad points, as its an older model it has drum brakes which need looked after, rear wheel set up is crap - no protection for wheel bearings so you will change these regularly, design of rear brake carrier is weird as part of this presses straight onto wheel bearing causijng wear on both.

After this it is a big jump to 65 with gears but what else - stick with automatic?

This weekend (hopefully) will be 1st time out on 65 so fingers crossed it goes ok. Major thing is their brains are like little sponges so they pick up things quick.
