It seems like motoplayground is putting a lot of energy into trying to make this happen Oct 7-9. Does anyone have any insight? Is it an AMA race?

Ponca used to be a huge deal the week before lorettas, it has certainly died off, haven't seen anything on it in years.

No reason it can't be a cool race again with the history. As long as NMA has nothing to do with it good luck.

All about money is my opinion of why it died off. It got costly to go to. And then having Loretta's so close too.

Having it in October when its perfect weather is way better than having it in August.

The NMA screwed themselves and with the cost of racing always going up I think it made more sense for people to just do LLs where they were treated better. Now that the NMA is all but dead after losing out after the Norman races and are not involved with Ponca its a great event again they just need the riders to start coming back.

I always preferred racing Ponca over LL as there was more stuff to do in the city when you were not racing.

I would say a lot has to do with the price of racing and equipment now. Before it was the top Loretta kids would make the stop on the way there and the rest usually were the over flow that couldn't make it to LL. I think now it cost so much for qualifiers and regionals the over flow can't afford to make another run across the country. Also there just isn't as many people out there like there was from the mid 80's to the early 2000's. Just my opinion.

Went to Ponca twice with my son, '03 and '04 I think, always had a great time there. The 'O4 trip was on the way to LL Race

Well, it's a bitchen facility and I'm pretty sure NMA is no longer, so that would be possible.
NMA screwed that race up so bad every year with overwatering and ripping it 6'deep. But Kurt was all about prepping them for the AMA tracks and his riders that he trained got special treatment for race order schedules and track prep breaks. I loved the facility, but hated driving all that way for a track that was ruined by his ways....

Nice to see you posting buddy. I was there both years too. Ricky killed it after they moved him to Int. I got picks of him in underwear and boots, out in the rain. Tanner choked both years, not a good mud rider...
Hope all is good, miss talking to you. The Jesse Nelso accident, has made me relive the crash at Whitney. I told the story the other day and still get choked up about it all. When you both took the bikes out on the track the year after the accident, that was a feeling that I've since had. Goosebumps and a lot of tears can't come close to describing that day.
Hope you and Ricky are doing good man, I think about you both a lot, even more the last 2 weeks Sad

NMA has folded. Ponca has one race per year for an Oklahoma state race Thats it. The annual summer national is no longer.
