Yes, carbon fibre reeds were stock on that model, and I'm guessing they are still in there, it looks very low hours.

Despite the years of neglect I'm really suprised to see how well she cleans up. Plenty of life left under all that gunk. ][/url]

That was with minimal effort and time. Nothing more than a paper towel and wd40.

The silencer that I thought looked like trash actually cleaned up to almost new looking.

Spent more time cleaning off the years of neglect. She must be starting to trust me more cause she really opened up.
First I pulled off the water pump housing, there I saw it a pristine impeller absolutely no corrosion anywhere but the biggest suprise was yet to come. As I gently peeled off her clutch cover. I was again greeted with an erie emptiness just as her radiators she was void of any life sustaining fluids. She wasn't dry but not a single drop formed in the drain pan I slid under her. Clutch basket and hub do not show any notching. Even more impressive when I took off her pressure plate I discoverd what appearrs to be a brand new 0 hours run time clutch.
Looking at the nut holding the basket on it appears to have been staked as if it's original or dare I say serviced by a dealership....

Well she's just about ready to come back to life. The engine is done fresh top and bottom end.

Spent some time working the expansion chamber. Worked out some dents and got it sand blasted. She will now received nightly rubdowns with wd40.

Biggest regret is not enough before pics. It really did take a lot of scrubbing and cleaning to get her looking good. Once I take her out a few times I will decide if I'm gonna keep her. If so I will take her back down to the frame again and do some powder coating and anodizing.
But for now she's gonna get some number plate graphics and a tank full of premix and rode hard.

Will also update the front end looks with a 2011 front fender and number plate. I also have a 2011 kx250f so curiosity got to me one night. Fender bolts right up and number plate just need two brackets that I can easily make.

Well she's all done. Extreme budget build for her. Last time I got involved with a girl like this it didn't go to well. It ended with me sliding face first for 50 feet or so in Ocotillo Wells. So I have trust issues with her type.
For that reason I didn't give her the pretty woman treatment just yet. Just wiped away the grime and let her know she's worth more than that. She required about $400 in surgery (top and bottom end) and new rear fender and lots and lots and lots of rubbing and holding late into the night. so well under $500 into her not including the yz85 I traded for her.

a short and not so typical build video coming soon.

Good deal, she looks like a runner!

FYI, it's always best to try not to switch between multiple user accounts in one thread, it confuses those of us that only have one account. Enjoy the ride!

Sweet bike man!!

Well got to take her out and spend some time with her. Her confidence is fully restored. She came right to life and after a little warming up she was purring like a kitten. Only adjustment made all day was 1/2 turn out on the air screw.
Safe to say she's gonna stick around. She turns on a dime, feels light as a feather in the air and loves her clutch to be feathered. She's very forgiving and puts the rider first herself second.
Between the new components I found in the bottom end and the crank and piston kits I put in her she's about as new as it can get. I even went through the suspension, rebuilt the forks and set all the clickers to stock. Next ride out I will start fine tunning her.
I have to say those stock graphics are really growing on me. I think they are going to stay.
She got along great with the other girls and made for an awesome day of riding.

So I guess it is possible to do an actual budget rebuild. I think I really lucked out on this one but then again I was looking for a really long time. Next target will be a 125.

Cost break down.
Bike- trade for a 2003 yz85 I bought 4 years ago for $700
$398 - top and bottom end kit through amazon
$20- rear fender
$12- grips
$free an hour meter I found during a track walk 2 years ago lol

Knowing I have a bike with fresh top and bottom end- priceless.
