He was 16 when the series started.

He started in his legal class and the promoter chose to allow advancements to take place following the conclusion of the series, which was the right decision IMO.
and this isn't just about Mookie, this is about a lot more riders than him.

But, if he was 16 shouldn't have the LL's Top 5 rule have kicked in?

Ah, I see.

Considering that the Advancement list came out after the series started it looks like he is legal.

But, Like I posted earlier, and you stated he was 16 before the series started, all they had to do was go to the mx results link on the AMA website, put in the riders name, it would have shown what his advancement points were, and told him he was advancing to the next level. (A) That is were he should have started the series. Everyone knew AMA was bringing back the advancements this year. Just to make it fair for all riders.

Just because hes not 16 at the first of the year doesn't mean he can race B. It is AMA's decision to let him or not. Like I said, they can't force him to move up, but they may not allow him to race B. Same case with Tyler Bowers a few years back. He was forced to race Youth and 4stroke, or move up to A.

and they were last year also, right?
and then they rescinded those advancements.

Honestly, we could all go round and round, over and over, but the reality is, nothing will change the fact that they (not just Mookie, but all of those in the same boat) were legal at the beginning of the series and are still legal in accordance to the promoter who chose to run his series under the rules in which it began and not change rules or classifications mid-series.

It is what it is.

Your issue is not with the riders, but with the promoter.

Dalton Yingling is far from asian lol, he was on my race team when he was on 85's and lives pretty close. His family is really dedicated to racing and he has everything an upcoming pro to be needs to get it done. His private track is awesome with full sized loaders and anything else you can imagine and Tichner has had a few schools held there as well. I used to call it Sanctuary.
Many many many years ago after practice Dave followed me back to my pits and told me I had to move up or I could not race. I had not even been on a bike for a few years after we had moved to Estero Island and was just flying because I was stoked to be on a bike again. They had B and A on same line and apparently he was right as I beat them all both moto's. The same kids that were in C have now won supercross and are successful racers. lol

The AMA's way of promotion is so rediculous. I raced 4 classes at Area's. 2 at Regionals. And 2 at Loretta's and got promoted. And I didn't even finished either class at LL. Winning regionals must have more of an affect on the ratio than a local race. Cause I wasn't even top 5 at Areas.

You're not required to move up until Jan 1st period. You can debate this all you want but he is legal to be in that class. Why he and others stayed there my be questionable but it was not illegal. Given the recent history of the advancement system it would not have made sense for the promoter to make "possibly" advanced riders move up.

I am sure the Stewarts had their reasons for staying in the B class. Maybe they were shaking down new equipment...who knows. But they weren't doing anything wrong.

Contingencies in the B classes from one place to another isn't a whole lot to get up in arms about maybe we can get a collection going for that $50 bucks that someone lost.

Like I said, they can't force him to move up, but they may not allow him to race B. Same case with Tyler Bowers a few years back. He was forced to race Youth and 4stroke, or move up to A.

The rule that moved up Bowers was changed the following year. Any kid, regardless of RPV or results, can stay in B class till the beginning of their AMA 16 year old year.

Two things for you to know about the system. The first is that all races count the same and you only need 6 to have a valid RPV. The second, and this one is tricky, if you don't score any advancement points, that race is not counted as a race when they divide your total points by the number of rac es. That is to make it harder to manipulate the system by just DNFing to bring down your RPV. Not that is can't be done, you just have to figure out how to finish where you will at least score one point (based on the number of riders in the class).

The thing that hurt you was that you won some races like Budds and the regional at Muddy Creek and amassed a bunch of points, and when you didn't do well, you were far enough back not to score points and those races do not count.

I think that the way the AMA has handled advancement the last few years is a travesty. They have been indecisive and have changed the rules many times. Advancement is also something everyone involved in racing needs to completely understand. There are many who are working the system to ensure a logical progression for their rider. Unfortunately, if you don't understand the system, you will struggle and may be surprised.

I understand the problems people would have, based on the AMAs past, but at some point we have to bite the bullet and let the system do its job. As promoters and race officials we have to interpret the grey areas and do what we feel is best for our series and our riders, while still following the rulebook as it is written. Promoters and officials do not operate in a vacuum and what is right for their particular situation may have effects in setting precedent in other series and for other promoters. What the folks at Unlimited Sports allowed the riders to do, based on the AMAs track record of uncertainty, seems to be the right decision for them and their series and seems to have been made in good faith with their riders.

I probably should not have used a riders name in the thread because it was not about Malcolm, but the situation in general. There are many people who saw these kids still in B class and the reaction was, "Here we go again with the AMA caving in to the demands of these high profile riders".
