for sure. I have followed Taft a long time to cause he from Missouri so I like him to. I pulling for the Midwest boys. Top three in Pro Sport were Illinois, Iowa and Missouri that is awesome
Speaking of Taft, I know he is a year or two older than the class of Forkner, TCharb, etc that are already riding the nationals. Did he get injured for a significant amount of time or something else that has kept him in the amatuer ranks?

The two sites you mentioned are the only ones I know of that will have daily video/photo coverage.

We're putting together a goodie/care package for brother that is overseas. Have any of you at the ranch seen if playground is selling things out of their spot? He LOVES playground shirts. I want to put some in his package as a surprise he would flip out over. They're not selling shirts from their site anymore. I know the week is crazy busy and I know nothing would be sent from there. Trying to find out if I could purchase them this week to be shipped out after they get back home. I can pay any way accepted, paypal, credit/debit, whatever. Would buy 3 or 4 if they have different colors. I know how huge it would be to him so I'll try to buy them any way I can. Just want to see if anyone knows.
Yo I can help too, more than happy actually sounds like a great cause

Is there still a claiming rule at Lorretta's? I wouldn't imagine Honda letting him ride that one off bike with that much R and D in a race with a claiming rule. Did they make him a "copy" of that bike or did they get all the info they needed so it doesn't matter if they lose it?
You can claim any bike at Loretta's for 2x MSRP.

I spoke to Kibby at FC about this possibly happening, they're more than prepared. He said his goal was to have enough parts to build like six or seven of those bikes before LL, in-case something happens. They're also not trying to ruin the one 85 based class they race, so that's why that bike isn't as trick, it's an older spec per se. While in the supermini category, they went all out with the bike.

Few reasons why I think that bike won't be claimed:

1. The manufactures have a gentleman's agreement to not claim each other's bikes. So the claim wouldn't come from anyone at Team Green, Horton/Rock River, TLD/Orange Brigade KTM, Suzuki am, etc...

2. If someone away from this group tries to claim one, they'll pretty much ruin their kids chances at ever getting any support from FC or Honda, ever. Along with the other manufactures not being too impressed...

3. Claiming that bike is pointless, as you'll never have the parts to keep it running.

4. If you really, really want one of those bikes... Kibby said they were considering selling the parts to build them to help expand Honda's presence in those classes.
Cool? yes....a waste of money yes....making the sport more expensive for the family...yes...

R&D and the top level of the sport is understandable, 15K bike at the amateur level is part of what is driving down the sports participation...I believe that is why what Robbins did a few years ago was so popular...10 year old bike technology is fine at this level....heck even Ken Roczen is showing what an older platform is capable of, sans suspension....

where is the point of diminishing return?

Lorettas is the closest a amateur can get to the rush and chaos of the opening laps of a outdoor national.

40 guys about the same speed on the gate, lots of people watching,it is moto heaven.

Yesterday he had bike issues during the parade lap, last clip was him pushing it off the track. On the broadcast they were saying his throttle cable broke and they couldn't get it fixed in time for the gate drop

10 year old bike technology is not fine at this level. Jerry Robin would admit that. And Roczen's RMZ has all the latest, greatest, state of the art technology and components.

one thing people dont realize about the RMZ 450 and 250

yes the plastic is the same, however, the chassis and motor have physically been changed over the past 8 years. Unfortunately the changes are not visually as drastic as KTM Kawi and Honda so people assume nothing has been changed.

Not only that, but just because a design that is brand new ground up doesnt equate to better.

reality is the RMZ chassis are really good and has been good. I've ridder most brands lately and an RMZ 450 cant be touched in corners

So back to the post I quoted, that trick crf150 is required to be competitive to beat superminis 2 strokes utilizing out dated technology? Cool for sure, but necessary?

Breaking down necessary tech, suspension...yamaha 10 yr old tech with refinements. front air...any advantage? Agree FI for 4 strokes was a big improvement, every current 2 stroke at LL using a carb, very old tech. Brakes, pretty old technology. Engine, mostly refinements other then the yzf and 17 crf. All the other cool electronic stuff is neat, but imo not necessary for a good rider to be compitive, even less so for a slow rider or pro.

New technology is used by mfg to give you motivation to buy a new bike, not win a race. Having to pay for a racing family for 6 years, I def understand what an family with a midclass income is willing to spend on a sport, chasing a dream to be a pro is probably less then 5 % of those who still race mx and all together different.

Plenty of other threads that point to cost of bikes and maintenance contributing to less racers.

Is the sport growing, because more people watch TV and there are less riders?

All fun...just discussing something other the politicsSmile

I think you would have to classify KTM's all new engines, both two and four stroke as "new technology" as they completely re-tooled a much lighter, compact engine in those bikes. I understand they are still traditional designs though, i.e. rear intake, forward exhaust, whereas the Yamaha and new Honda are downdraft intakes, etc.. Some of the new traction control technology is a solid leap forward in tech as well, and the programmable ignitions/fuel curves. Some of this does go along with EFI though. If someone has never experienced the level of change you can make to a bike with programming, they would be astonished!

All good, and a good discussion, for sure.

Looks like Stroupe is out? RR could win this thing in a 125! RR 6-8 seconds per lap faster than 2nd!
