It's EXTREMELY hot and humid in August in Tennessee, that's a given. But on the topic of hydration, excessive intake of water can have adverse effects on the body, like flushing vital nutrients and elements right out of your muscles and organs. Muscle cramps and joint pain will follow. Fruit juices, chocolate milk, and even pedialyte should suppllement the water. A pinch of added salt will counteract the flushing effect.
Experienced this in mountain biking by WAY over doing the water the day before a big ride. Learned my lesson. When you are half way into a 25 mile ride and your muscles start locking up stiff as a board for 5 minutes at a time and you're like wtf is happening to me.

Same here, 25 miles into the Vermont 50 and my whole legs just locked up solid. Managed to get to an aid station. They knew exactly what it was and gave me salt tablets. Limped to the finish and learned a valuable lesson that day. Some of the worst pain ever.

I'll be there too...racing 45+ and 50+. I've been there before so hit me up if you want to pit together. I'm coming from California but also lived in CO in the early 80's...we might know some of the same peeps. I'll probably be solo too since my son is in the Air Force and my wife is 50/50 because of work. I have a buddy who might drop in but it would be good to have a safety net in case something happens. I can help you on the line if our races aren't too close together.

Btw I sent you a PM but not sure if it went through.

Thanks for the offer. It looks like Doug has stepped up already, but I appreciate it and might hit you up if anything happens.

Indeed! From my experience being around MX for 30 years, this is what moto folk are generally like, which is great. All that flaming, trolling and generally being mean to each other on the internet is, IMO, a function of the medium rather than the people or the sport. You go on any web forum and it's exactly the same kind of arguments, but when push comes to shove moto people get it done and help each other.

I saw but now cannot find the message containing your cell number. Jeez the PM system here is funky. Shoot me an email to the addy below...it's different from my PM email (work) and it will show up on my cell. We can exchange cell numbers and go from there.
frpactionphotography@gmail.com

EDIT Just found the email with your number...will call you later today.

If you want to practice in the serious heat come down to Hanover. I have a dirty dozen that's real similar to the Ten Commandments. Going to be 100 both days this weekend. A wet jersey will imitate the humidity.

Many thanks for the offer! Afraid I was away camping over the weekend so I didn't get to ride. I like the wet jersey idea; I hadn't thought of that.

I might be down on the Friday/ Saturday. If so, I'll bring a pit-board and treat you like family.

So I'm afraid Doug has had to withdraw from Loretta's so I'm looking again for someone to help me at the start, pitboard etc. I will, of course, help you out for your motos.

Simon, I'm coming down to LL's by myself also. I have a couple of family members that are going to be popping in on Thursday and might help me out, and I've got another couple of freinds that will be there that I was hoping could help me out too, but I'll gladly help you out on the gate if you could do the same for me. I'll be number 86 on a 14' YZ450 in the 50+ class. msg me for details if you want.

I expect you'll stop by the Race Tech truck and say hello. I might not have a Busch or a PBR, but I will have a beer you can have and I know you won't complain about any ice cold beer... or the shade.

i'll be there. i'd like to talk to you about setting up my Baja machine anyway, a little bench-racing over a beer and shade sounds like a great idea

A little advice,

Make it thru the 1st turn,no matter what,it is better to round it at the back than wasting time picking up.

The age groups always seemed to have the pileup.

I always gage my jump, grab a gear or 2 and evaluated.

The inside of the doghouse was best for me,several times i went dead inside and just get away safe in the top 20 then dig.

The last 2 laps guys start catching their tounges in the front wheel.

Hey Bob - thanks for the offer! I've managed to sort out some reciprocal help with another guy riding your class so I'll be at the gate and running his pit board, but I'll be happy to help you at the line with holeshot device and packing your gate if you need it! I'm #36 in Senior 40+.

Thanks hillbilly, great advice. I'm on a 350 so the start may be a bit of a struggle, but at least it's not uphill. I normally ride at 6,000 ft elevation so I'm hoping my bike will feel like a rocket ship!

I have a couple questions you may be able to answer having raced there before. Are the motos 20 mins plus 2 laps? Or 20+1? And is there tech inspection? And will you be racing?

Cheers

20+2 no tech any of the years I've raced.

Dog house and slightly inside has always worked for me. But I pulled the holeshot in 250A pro sport one time from just about dead inside. Just try not to get stuck on the far outside or your day is over before it starts

He's right on guys running over their tongues last few laps. If you have some left in the tank you can make a lot of passes at the 15 minute mark

I'll be there wed morning till Saturday if you need anything give me a shout
