Here we go just as it looked like the AMA was moving forward it may not a reality....... From what i was told today the AMA is having a emergency congress meeting to clarify when advancement points start racking up. There have been several appeals to the B to A advancement list with the premise that points do not accumulate till AFTER the riders 16th birthday. The way I have always read it was when you race a points carrying class your points have always accured but you were not forced to move up to A until January 1st of your 16th year. An example of this is my son Joey has enough advancement points to move to A this year, but its his 14th year so he does not have to. Anyone here have any more word on whats going on?
I suck at cut and paste nor do I have time to do it today, but I know there are some real computer wizards on here...if possible can someone look at the AMA rule book and post that section?

This is getting quite out of hand now for the "good guys" at the AMA who have worked so hard to make the advancement happen. hope it all works out in the right direction!

Here you go:

*No rider, youth or amateur, can be forced to compete in
the A class until January 1 following their 16th birthday.
Riders under 16 years old may advance on their own
ability/competence.

I don't know why they would need to have a special meeting to discuss this since it's pretty cut and dry. If someone turns 16 on January 2 and they had enough points to advance to the A class, they can still stay in the B class another year.

There is a special meeting. but it's not about advancement.

advancement may be discussed, but this meeting this weekend which i will be going to is about a lot of items. It is NOT another "congress" in fact many people going are not congress delegates.

it's pretty clear how the 16yrr olds advancement process works.

So Wardy you are saying what we all think we know, correct?

Points accumilate for all riders at any AMA points paying event. Riders can't be moved to the A class forcefully until they turn 16 years old, and January 1st hits after that fact..

I wasnt talking about advancement early...i am speaking of a few riders that are on the B to A advancement list that are questioning when their points started to accumulate...by reading that rule when would you say advancement points start to accumulate?

if you say you shouldn't be bumped up because you turned 16 towards the end of the season and in those few races you didn't accumulate enough points, I'd call whoever that was a whiny little sandbagger bitch.

Over the past 30 years of visiting Millville, in late July or early August, I have either sweated like a roasting hog or had to run the furnace, within two consecutive summers! Crazier weather than Southern Iowa, if you can believe thatShocked

I love that place!

The points accumulate the previous year, regardless of what age you are. Pretty simple, really, unless you are trying really hard to sandbag at age 16.

I do not think that the schoolboy classes 12-16 need A riders in it. The way it is set up now there will be. Not at the National Level because it is a B/C class, but at the local level maybe.

not possible as the AmA rule book states "no A riders" in the schoolboy class. this is for all AmA events.... unless your racing non ama?

I have talkd to Wardy a couple times and he has explained the advancement system to me. I THINK IT IS A JOKE. This is just my opinion. I watched alot and I mean alot of B and C riders race last year that straight domintaed the field and were not moved up to either B or C. Hardly any riders we know that should of been moved in district17 were not advanced. I dont understand this??? I always thought the goal of MX was to move up through the ranks and finaly make the A class and compete. To better your skills. You have too many Mommy and Daddys out there crying and whinning at the track when lil Jimmy gets his ass kickd in his first B class race and doesnt get a trophy to take home. Well guys there is a trophy shop down town and you can go have anyone that you want made for 20-30 dollars. With the economy and gas prices last year was one of the worst turnouts in years. I know alot of people that always show up for track prep day that wana start racing, they always are asking what class does this guy race that is turning laptimes of a fast B rider that is racing in the C class on the wknds. When you tell him C he gets scaird off and doesnt come racing. If the C classes are going to be so competitive with people sandbagging and falling over in the last corner or not showing up for the 2nd moto, trying to stay in C class saying there goin to LL, then never go to a qualifier, Then reinact the D class for beginers, Make it a non-points paying event, No contingency, After you win it a few times then bump them out of it. Let them get there feet weet Wardy, Let them see if they like racing. Wardy you know exactly how fast the C class is and what goes on in it. If you have a kid staring out that wants to start racing, goes to the track all year and never wins a damn trophy, he will loose interest. How is he supposed to compete with top C riders running laptimes of a fast B rider that has been in the C class for the last 3 years, winning C class championships, ISS championships, and even District championships and continues to stay in the same class, I guess everything is different from the way it used to be, The LOCAL AMATURE part of the sport is being ruined. Its all about fukn money and contingencey anymore and parents bragging about there kid winning the C class in the pits. Somthing has to change!!! Im not goin to drop names on riders from D17 that didnt get advanced that should had 2 to 3 years ago, they know who they are. I find it disrespectful to drop names behind their backs. WARDY THIS HAS TO CHANGE AROUND HERE OR THE RIDER COUNT IS GONNA GO TO SHIT, LTM AND CROSSROADS ARE DOIN ENOUGH ON THERE PART TO DRIVE PEOPLE OFF. WARDY YOU SHOULDA WENT TO THE LTM BANQUET. WHAT A JOKE. I know that you are only one person, And you do a hell of a job as our D17 mx president. But somethin has to change with this advancement. As a kid being advanced to the A class. if hes 16. That should be an honor to him. That means hes put in some hard ass work and has accomplished a great goal. You dont get advanced to the A class for being slow.

Aaron,

Who are the riders you feel should have been advanced in D17? You seem to be pretty outspoken, but if you don't feel comfortable putting them on the board, e-mail me at

mburkeen@nc.rr.com

I'll research it for you and let you know why.

I think Wardy has done more than anyone else on this problem but as he's stated before its a work in progress. Last years roadblock with advancement just put them that much behind. I had put this subject up for discussion because I know what national riders are trying to beat the system and its just plain wrong. Have you tried to contact your area congress rep? That's the best route to start

Hey Sean, whats up..

I looked at the digital thermometer this morning. It said "OF-L". Even the gauges are tired of this crap.

It's minus 25 degrees, and then you can add in the wind chill.. Coldest day in the past 7 years.

I pretty much agree with you aaron, when we asked for a national system way back in 2000. The idea was that we here in IL were sick and tired of the sandbagging going on. We had one of the most aggressive advancement systems in the country.

As we tried to implement this through rules and structure it was watered down more and more til what we have today. The national system has to reflect the main stream normal race day rider. Todays system is geared way to much to that oem factory style "amatuer" rider. Reason that no riders went to A last year.

Riders ride all year at non ama events then travel to LL and race for the "AMA" national championship..... the whole time they are not being scutinized by the system they want to win a championship in. Then you have have riders doing some of the things that Aaron is talking about. It's really hard to accuse or prove a rider is doing that crap but we all know it happens. My thought to cure that is get rid of the "C" class national championship which wouldn't be recieved well either. But i have said this a million times, what is a C class national champion ????

Aaron has gave me some names, so have a few others who read this board and dont post. I haven't had time this week but will next week look at most all the top riders around here and also do the 30+ class numbers.

"MOM'' is correct, we were set back a huge blow last year, and well this process will need alot of work to smooth out. It won't be easy. I am sure there will be alot of complaints. But once instituted and followed through it will work.

I dont see anything about no A riders in schoolboy. Just the L.L. classes that says it is a B/C class.

we have had the no A in schoolboy since 1991. but here it is direct cut and paste out of the AMA rule book. it's in the youth section and a rule that got passed for 2008 season.

a. The use of OEM or aftermarket kits to change displacement or
wheelbase will be allowed in the schoolboy and super mini classes
only.
b. *No “A” class riders are permitted to compete in any
schoolboy or supermini class.
2. Stock classes - for approved minicycles only. See Chapter 2, Section A,
regarding allowable equipment. Stock minicycles are subject to
inspection, and any deviation, other than approved modifications, will
result in the machine being assigned to another category or
disqualification.

Slow Old Guy : I apoligize if I came out over bearing here. I can be out spoken but I try to act on and off the track at a professional manner. What I posted earlier this morning was just not the voice of myself but the voice of many others, some of which are a member of this site and some of which have never been on here. Like I said earlier I am not goin to name drop. They all know who they are. Im sure that Wardy has had several emails and phone calls on this subject and is stressed out about it enough. He has been around MX a long time, and knows im sure every trick in the book that others are trying to pull. Im confident in him as our District 17 MX director that he will get this resolved. As for Wardys comment on the C class being removed from LL National. I feel that 100% he is correct on the issue. There also should be no contingency for the C class. It is designed as a beginer class. Contingency and National championships should in my opinion not even be related in the same sentence. But again this is my opinion and Im sure that others have a different opinion. But like I said earlier if there is going to continue to be such an emphasis on the C class with contingency and LL and trying to stay there for those reasons, Then a beginer class for youth and adults needs to be inacted for the weekend/beginer rider. Again this is only my opinion. Once again I apoligize if I have came off wrong or offended anyone, but this is one issue that I feel very strongly about, Our rider turnout is down enough without adding to that issue.

man it sure was easier when i was racing
you rode as fast as you could, you beat everybody
you moved yerself up and you
kicked the shit out of the local pros.

simple as pie....
