Thomas Covington - European Spicoli accent for real?

http://www.pulpmx.com/content/mantova-mxgp-pulpcasts -- interviews today with Reed, Covington and Paulin after the GP in Italy

Anyone knows if Covington is just messing around as an Alabama native trying to sound like a Southern CA dude but with what sounds almost also like an Australian accent?

He's from Alabama right? For someone that's only been in the MXGP series for perhaps 3 yrs his accent has either drastically changed or he's just messing around during interviews.

I just aksed a friend to listen to the interview from today linked above & he thought Covington was an Aussie.

I'm from the south and often folks here will try to NOT sound as if they are from the south. Maybe that's what's going on?

U summed it up with that statement. Even an Alabama native's accent is impacted by that much Bro in the blood.

Some people tend to pick up the accents of those they are around........ I do not think this Alabama guy is trying to - on purpose - not sound like a native Alabamian, it just happens by chance.

Funny it was to keep hearing Emig state that Covington is from So Cal.

Covington does however not appear to be a serious Mx'er.

He appears to be just in it to just try and get buy.

He finishes 14th out of 20 time and time again

Then he gets on the podium for one race out of 15

and he hops that will get him a contract for the next year.

To finish as high as he did in Italy shows he has conditioning

but to finish as bad as he does the rest of the time, just shows he is a loser

the exact opposite of a Herlings.

but i guess there just has to be some of both types

wow you say.

ok here is the logic

I would love to see Covington be successful - I am from the next state over from his home state and I would love to see one of "my own" succeed, just like Billy Liles or Trampas Parker.... Unfortunately Thomas has not shown the characteristics as those riders, I keep hoping he will but I am still waiting. So far - it's one good race and 10 very bad

To me a guy who is less serious, yet wins/ podiums on talent, is more impressive. Like Ron lechien, or McGrath,or Craig senior. I'm sure those guys trained plenty, but they were also known to party way hard lol. Like Emig. More talent in his pinky than many guys who beat him at times. But when the stars were aligned? Imagine training ur ass off, and then hearing Lawrence wrecked a rental car and got out the pokie, then still beat u. That would mess with my head lol
