The bike looks awesome.
Thanks man, maybe we'll see you at the two stroke shootout this year.

It's penciled in on my calendar. First year since 2012 that I haven't had a more important obligation, and that I have a 2stroke. So I'll be there 100%.

Me neither.

Wow, those side panels/plates look awesome. I still have my 15/16 airbox in the box it came in, I might have to rethink the update.

I picked up this 04 steelie about a year ago "for my daughter." Nevermind that I've probably put twice as many hours on it as she has since then lol!! It amazes me that the little bike is so versatile that I as an vet intermediate and my daughter as a novice rider can both go out and enjoy riding it.

I haven't ridden the AF 125, but I can say I get along very well with the older chassis. Funny thing, on certain tracks I ride that bike as fast as my dialed in 450F, and I can sustain that pace longer. Last month I went out and just kept cutting laps and was in the groove, then when I watched the gopro I found out I had just done a 34 minute moto (?!?!) Let's just say I was shocked, 15-20 is the norm for me. And my fastest lap was around the 20 minute mark. That was with stock forks and exhaust. On another faster/slicker track it's about five seconds off my 450 times though.

Just put finishing touches on it this week -- FC revalved forks and FMF Fatty/Powercore system will be getting their first test today!

I'm working on one of these YZ250's currently. What are people's opinion on who does excellent off road porting spec's for the 2006 motor? I'm looking to make it a woods bike.. .So lots of end. I'm trying to figure out who to send it to.

The list I have now is:
Eric Gorr
Ken O'conner
Possible Varner....

Thoughts? Open to suggestions.

Thanks!
One thing's for sure: I was on a tight budget and they are the cheapest around...
Wink
But I probably wouldn't have gone with the 15/16 stock looks: I find the new airbox/side plates a bit bulky.
It's really a matter of personal taste, though, some will prefer the UFO or Cycra side plates...

I ordered them when I first got the bike a year and a half ago, the look hasn't grown on me either. I've seen those ridiculous 02-14 ones cut down before but not looking that good. I think the UFO ones are hideous.

Wow... that is a clean looking Steely! Love the frame color. May have to do something similar with my frame the next time I pull the motor to swap the crank.

I wanted to visually lighten the back of the bike, à la Sherco. Studied the lines on most recent Yamahas, drew quite a few sketches till I got something I liked, and voilà. Could have rounded more the inner angle, but the new YZFs are so edgy, I decided to keep the "hacksaw look"...
Did my design on the shroud with masking tape and cut along the lines with a Dremel... You have to be careful, 'cause once it's cut, it's cut! I actually cut the lower line three times, taking a little bit more plastic away each time... The only tricky part is that both sides aren't really symetrical to begin with, so you have to work with that...

It seems like there are a ton of people building steel framed YZs here. Yeah, I know I said who isn't but who here is, I'll be first on the list. I bought an 03 250 for $1000 a year and a half ago, my plan was to have it ready the next spring. That didn't happen, I didn't even start on it until a few weeks ago. I'm hoping to have it done before this spring is over.

Mine is finally done, I will be testing it out for the first time this Saturday at North Florida Mx. I haven't been to this track yet but it looks fairly easy, which should be good for me since its been over a year since I last rode my bike.

How do you guys with the steel frames like them? I've been wanting a 250 with an aluminum frame but everyone with one is out to lunch with their prices.

Took this picture about 2 weeks ago. I'll yank her out every few months and give her a bath and fill the tires like I'm gonna ride her. Never happens. I feel bad that all she's doing is keeping a milk crate from floating away. Thinking '16 plastics/ powder coat and black rims. Or... Do a YOT Tedesco Replica. Problem is I have a few different bikes taking my attention. But, I really like this bike and will probably never get rid of her.

That bike you posted is pretty close to what I might do.

For me the 02+ steel frame is great. As for the frame itself I feel it is superior. Basically no vibration while riding, corners on rails and is more compliant over nasty chop/roots and rocks. The whole package needs the front brake upgraded, forks refreshed and revalved for your riding and you're good to go. Those are the only things that are noticeably different.
