Is the Dunlop MX52 a really bad tyre?

I've read on here that some of you guys say this tyre is shit. I've got this on my YZ125 and the front end always feels like it wants to wash out. Is the tyre that bad or is my set up off? I've also heard the MX32 is a lot better.

How does the mx52 compare to the old mx51?

The mx51 front was the last Dunlop I ever ran lol

Front MX 51FA was so bad

The rear mx52 is pretty good for intermediate and harder terrain dirt. The front 52 kinda sucks everywhere.
The mx32 front is awesome everywhere except rock hard dirt, and the rear 32 is also awesome everywhere except rock hard dirt..
I'm running a 32 front and a 52 rear and it works very good everywhere..

That's the same setup I run. I prefer the MX32 front in all terrains over the MX52 front. I run a MX52 rear only because it doesn't wear quite as fast as the MX32 rear.

It's not a very good front tire. The MX3S is a FAR better front tire. The MX52 is a decent rear tire, though.

I felt the 52 front was too firm and would wash out like you said. I really liked the 32 front and 52 rear was good because it lasted longer. 32-32 is the best combo but I wore thru them pretty fast.

That's how I feel about it too. I run the Bridgestone X30 on my YZ125 and they perform well in a variety of soil types. Also, they last a lot longer than the Dunlop stuff.

The MX32 loses knobs extremely fast unless you're on a sand track. Anything resembling medium to hard dirt and the knobs start chunking off. The front MX32 loses the outside row in a day on hard soil and the rear will start losing knobs after a couple of rides.

The older Dunlop 756 does not do this. I had two brand new 756 rears on the shelf and raced at Washougal with one recently on my 250 two stroke. It worked really well and showed minimal wear after two days racing two classes.

The Bridgestone M404 and M403 combo was excellent and some places still have them for a marked down price. If you can grab up a set of those, you'll love the durability. The X30 replaced the 404/403 in their lineup.

I went from MX52s front/rear to MX32s and it was a night and day difference. The terrain I ride mostly is sand-ish or pretty loamy and they have been wearing fine, can't say on hard pack..but definitely go with the 32 up front!

Thanks for all the replies. Definitely gonna either try a Dunlop MX32 or Bridgestone X30, depending what my dealer has. Someone did ask what size I was running. I've got a 80/100, what is the preferred size?

I honestly can't tell much if any difference in the front X30 vs the 403, but the rear is somewhat better in my opinion.

February 2015 I took two sets of wheels to Washougal and rode a practice day in nearly perfect conditions. Washougal is tilled and watered pretty deep, thus it starts out soft in the morning, develops ruts and works into hard-pack clay with multiple good tacky lines in the afternoon. At the end of the day portions of the track are dry orange/yellow clay with some blue-groove areas and square edges in the fast sections. So basically it transitions from a soft track to serious hard-pack throughout the day.

I switched wheels from M404 to X30 on my YZ125 every moto for the entire day. The X30 is a wider tire with a slightly flatter profile, so it's no big surprise that it grips better than the 404 on flat turns and in a straight line. Both tires were the 100/90-19 size for the little bike.

In a larger series tire like the 120 rear, the 404 probably rolls into turns and ruts a little better, but I'm sure the X30 makes more traction. If you're running a 120 you're probably riding a 450F or a 500 and you'll love that traction.

I run the 110/90-19 size on my old 250 two strokes. The X30 works well in that size on the more powerful bike too. Currently I have one on the front of my 250 with an old (but brand new) dunlop 756 on the rear. My spare 250 wheel has a Dunlop MX52 on it which I'll ride at the rocky hard-pack practice track in an hour or so tonight.

I prefer the X30 vs the Dunlop 52 on intermediate terrain even though it's hard to tell much difference when you find the sweet spot for pressure / conditions. The Bridgestone just hangs on to it's knobs and lasts longer.

First ride there was on Sunday. Pics and videos made it look loamy, but it seemed like concrete with a solid layer of pebbles on top. Had to take a couple PSI out of the 404's, to hold a line

Getting rid of the 756 was pure stupidity on dunlops part. Hated the 52. Found some NOS 756's and picked up a few last year.

K490/695 used to be my preferred combo. Nowadays the MX32's are tough to beat on everything but hard pack.

I have one ride on my cr 250 with 52's front and back and absolutely hate the front. Feels like it wants to wash out on every turn.

The X20 is comparable to the Dunlop 32's
The X30 likewise to the Dunlop 52's.
52 front washes out, I don't like that tire. 32 is better, but when the conditions start becoming dry and hard, it's not great.
The 52 rear isn't bad, the X40 is better though, but I have lost a few knobs on the outside.

For me, the MX52 front tire is only used when it's straight hard-packed and blue groove because of the contact area... I don't use it for anything else...

I have one ride on a pair of mx52's. (At milestone, when its dry and hardpackd).. the rear is fine i did manage to chip a little bit of rubber off the rear knobbies... The rear end tracked really well after i dropped some psi.. was running 15, went down to 11 and a noticeable change.

The front tyre, was a bit of a tricky sombitch, i was at 17psi upfront when i first hopped on the track and it was skating bad, i dropped it down to 11psi and its still kinda finiky, I havent exactly felt that planted trust feel, like with my old front tyre.. i will see after my next ride and im a little more comfortable out there... after not riding for a year then new tyres its def kinda hard to judge them after 1 ride.

My 16 ktm 450 factory edition had mx32s, I have 9.5 hours on it and the rear tire was trash after about 6 hours, I just put a 52 on. I ride mostly hardpack. Hoping it lasts a little longer.

52 Front is only good on hard pack . I do like the 32 as it has a much wider range of traction. I would like to try some Michelins or Bridgestones .
