Damn, riding two motos with a broken neck. I sure am glad that this ended well. It makes me shutter to think of how this could have ended differently.

He went down in the 2nd Moto. Not that it really matters Honestly if I had the coins he has. I would seriously consider retirement . Other than the money aspect what's he have to gain that he has not already done ?

According to the results he finished the 2'nd moto in 4'th place. Opps, you are right the crash was in the second moto.

Yeah he came back from outside the top 20 after his crash to finish 4th....and discovered the next day he had a stiff neck....you can actually watch the whole race at promotocross.com and see for yourself....

He would have also had a broken collarbone if he had a neckbrace on.

I sometimes wonder why some riders come back from injury time and time again to get reinjured again. Trey Canard may be the poster child of this. I always ultimately come to the conclusion that everyone has their own desires and makes their own decisions so I don't pass judgement on those who decide to keep coming back.

Some of these guys though, haven't spent their earnings wisely, and don't know ANYTHING of value outside of racing. And therefore, their decisions are either suck it up and keep racing, risking injury, or get a job probably making $40k a year if they're lucky. And while they make the decisions to keep racing, it isn't entirely their choice to make MX their career. Basically your parents make the decision for you. Starting at the point they allow you to drop out of school or "homeschool" their kid so they can race. And that's when their societal value outside of racing starts disappearing.

Trey has talked about it a few times in interviews. Said he has thought about retiring but then 2 weeks into recovery and he wants to ride. Some have hung it up after bad crashes. hepler, Morris (after that bad crash with trey). Hepler was smart if you ask me. He lived the life of a factory rider for a while, had fun and moved on. He was smart if you ask me. No amount of money or fame (the little they have and only in the mx world) is worth messing your head up and having lifelong problems from it. No matter what, it's their decision if they want to do it anymore. We don't have the right to say what they should do. Nobody tells any of you if you should move from prepping the salads and get on the grill (even though that's when the big bucks start rolling in)

Dungey is only starting to get rolling. A guy like him doesn't stop because he might get hurt, he stops because he's done. RD isn't done, not by a long shot.

Should've been wearing an Atlas. Wouldn't be in this situation and could have had a pocket full of neck brace cash to boot.

Broc Hepler was in a much worse place than anybody out there racing now or contemplating retirement. He was forced to take time off unless he wanted to end up a vegetable. Still a smart move, though.

Oh definitely, your right about that. I'm surprised trey is still at it. Love the guy but he has had some pretty rough times

The title of this thread is the most ignorant thing I've read all day.

He was also smart with his money, and made a lot because they were handing out big contracts before 08-09.

Retirement! Are you kidding?!? You can't be serious. What does he have to gain? How about the same reason we all race. To compete and have FUN.

Can you imagine how fun it is to race with the best in the world and be competitive?

I'd race for as long as I was competitive and possibly could even if I wasn't getting paid, hell I'd even pay them!! - wait....I actually do that on a weekly basis and I'm 54.

At his level if he were to quit, he'd only be able to race a couple times a year at LLs the Vet Worlds when he turns 30, and maybe a couple others but none would be any fun cause he would lap the field.

If your a true racer, which I think Dungey is (I'm not actually positive) you race for the love of it - Not money.

I can't believe you posted this! let's see, broken neck or broken collar bone? Hmmmm... let me think about this one for a minute or two. The whole neck brace issue will never die!
