Nike boots

Who else thought the Nike boots RD5 and JS7 used to wear were so cool? It's hard to believe a company would make a product good enough that the top level of the sport would use it, and pay guys to wear them, when they had no intention of seling it to the masses. I remember waiting for them to be available to the public but nothing ever came of it. You don't usually see that. Anyone have any info on what happened to them?

If we have enough people that want them, maybe we could make a deal with TCX for a couple pairs, we gonna rebrand them into Vitals instead off nike off course

If I remember right they were garbage, as in they barely lasted a full race and weren't they like $5K?

Most of this was covered in the thread from last week. The boots lasted long, it was just the soft soles that needed to be replaced.

I was lucky enough to try on a pair when I worked at Nike and they were by far the best boot i've ever worn.

Probably couldn't get the sort of profit margin they require, add also the numbers of units they would sell I can understand why they stuck to what they know (damn ugly trainers). I did like the 6.0 high tops though

$300 for a pair of lebrons. Cost 25 cents to make.

Dirtbike boots. Probably cost $2.50 to make. Nobody would buy them. No brainer.

They would sell like iphones, you have no freaking idea what you're talking about. The fact that we're talking about them 4 years later proves that.

Nike sells hundreds of millions of pairs of shoes each year, I'd guess. They'd sell hundreds of boots each year. Simple economics of scale - it's not worth their time to invest in the category.

There's no way they'd sell like iPhones because the consumer base isn't anywhere near as large. They would sell like Alpinestars or Fox, but even those numbers are an insult to Nike's expectations.

They would make money regardless.

Honestly they could but a company like oneal and use a pre designed boot or chassis and not even notice a dent in their pocketbook.

I wouldn't buy them but it's interesting to say the least.

If they thought they would make "enough" money they would be on shelves. Nike were testing the water with their 6.0 range and I guess they decided it wasn't profitable "enough'

How many pairs would they have to sell just to cover their rider sponsorship before you even factor in every other expense.
