Something like bubbas meds I can somewhat understand, but one that specifically increases blood flow and oxygen uptake....

Pretty funny how an athlete of her level would be so ignorant to the introduction of new banned substances. No excuses. She knew full well it was made illegal and she thought she could play dumb and get away with it.

She had been taking it for years and it was only placed on the banned list in January. I'm not sure how the information is distributed to the athletes, but it is definitely expected that the players know the rules.

She is still my "hall pass" with or without the meds. . .

She had been taking it for ten years. We don't know for sure if she took it for performing enhancing reasons. It could have been a medical condition. I honestly believe she didn't realize it was added to the banned list just recently. She got the news and immediately faced the music and let the public know on her own. No Twitter or news report let us know. She did. I believe it was an honest mistake. Yes it's 100% on her and her team for not keeping up with the updated fine print of the rules. However, I hardly think that she was blatantly cheating.

It sucks for her to be sure IIRC the penalty now is 4 years for testing positive.

I just wish more coaches and doctors would take more of an interest in this matter. My daughter is using Adderall and her track coach told her to get all the information so he can get a TUE in process for her. Note this is 9th grade track we are talking about.

My Ortho doctor asked me if i was planning on racing mountain bikes or moto this year before giving my knees there injections. When i asked him why.. He stated just making sure if we needed to file paperwork on the injections.

Sounds like there was a little more to it than that:

http://espn.go.com/tennis/story/_/id/14925933/manufacturer-says-4-6-weeks-normal-treatment-drug-maria-sharapova-case

I also read another article where she said she got an email with the updated list and didn't bother to open it. That seems either A) very, very irresponsible for a pro athlete or Cool an attempt to plea ignorance. Neither scenario is very good.

Don't be hating on my girl man. She's innocent as she can be. Haha.

I'm so far against WADA on this stuff. The hard core and dangerous PED's are not being caught in many cases. And a lot of what is being caught, are things you can get a TUE for and trivial at best. Then the minimum penalty is you get to sit 4 years which in a lot of cases is shoving athletes into retirement. Sure there is some accountability on the athlete, but damn, the punishments are out of control.

Also, this drug that Sharapova had, she could have paid a doctor to write her a script and sign off on a TUE and she would have been legit. No problem. So the TUE is just speed bump on the road to taking a drug that is on the restricted list.

Also, WADA's insistence to control the penalties levied is WAY too intrusive in my opinion. I'd be telling them to get lost if I was a sanctioning body.

I think I'm in love.

I get what you're saying and definitely agree to an extent. But, similar to all the other cases, gotta follow the rules that are in place. At the very least, I hope people will finally start to realize that the Stew deal wasn't the witch hunt that so many thought it was.

Since January 1st, when they put this drug on a banned list, 99 sportsmen has failed the test.

The drug was invented by a Latvian academic. Few days ago he gave an interview and said that it`s a crime against a humanity to put it on a banned list, cause the drug saves lives. We hear a lot about sportsman having heart attacks at very young age and dying, well, this drug prevents it. He says that death of sportsman will skyrocket cause they banned the drug. His estimate is that 95% of sportsmen are using it, at least in a post -soviet territories.

Wow!!! Week before World Junior hockey championship Russian National U-18 team has been pulled from a championship and U-17 team is sent to the championship. Apparently almost the whole U-18 team has failed a drug test. Meldonium

I would be curious to see if TUE's spiked once JS7 was suspended.

Or if TUE's spiked after Sharapova got busted. I love her so much. Not sure if I made that clear in this thread.

Once one high profile person gets popped, each subsequent person to get popped seems more ignorant than the last. Did the U-18 just roll the dice? Or did they just not pay attention at all to Sharapova's suspension?

Can we all agree just to give Sharapova a pass on this one?

I'm hoping she makes a trip to West Fort Worth Texas. She can stay with me and my wife if she wants.
