How does everyone measure how much fuel is in their gas tank?

I like to do trail riding and I always get nervous about running out of gas. Sometimes I see a trail I would like to explore but turn back because I'm afraid there is not enough gas in the tank.

My tank is dark black so I am unable to see the gas level.

Is there a level tool or something on the market?

Also, I have this thing about running the bike out of fuel after each ride. I don't like to store gasoline in my garage.

I set my kxf 450 up for woods riding until I'm clear to ride MX again. I bought an acerbis 3 1/2 gallon tank for that same reason. Its almost 2x stock ,and doesn't look too terrible. Im switching everything back in March. Im gonna ebay it. It was like 300 bucks I think, which was steep. I cant really remember I gotta check motosport outlet where I bought it.

I usually open the cap and shake the bike. haha

I am so in tune with my machine that when I jump I can sense the weight and calculate how many oz of fuel I have left. I can also FEEL when the tranny oil is low. Thanks for asking, and have great day.

On a stock tank you should be able to go 30 miles or so give or take. That only helps if you know how long the trail is or you have an odo or computer.

I fill my camelback up with extra gas. Actually I have a 3.5 gallon clear tank as well. Get ya one.

Don't worry about it just put extra gas in a water bottle in you pack and you should be fine. And if you do run out of gas think of all the stories you and your buddy's can talk about. And that weenie thing it doesn't work . Plus it looks funny when other riders come over the hill.
