Looked for info but couldn't find the right answers - what years are the YZ125 and YZ250F hubs a match? Is it 09+ that are the same?

YZ125/250 match up to 08 YZF. After that, the axle size is different.

Probably the same.. if the axle is bigger, replace the Bearings and the Bearing spacer and your happening.... Funny this, I just brought back to life a 2000 YZ125, while I was doing this I had a 2004 YZ250F I bought cheap for the engine.. the forks (which were bigger 48 MM) and the shock and swingarm all fit on the 125.. back to the YZ250F.. I had a yz450f that had a blown motor, rod through the case.. I bought a YZ250F frame off of Ebay for a $125 with all the brackets and bolts.. everything from the fofity fits on the 250f frame.. in closing, you would be surprised how much Yamaha reuses model to model... Bearing space on eBay.. 10.99...

Finding the bearings to do the swap may prove to be a challenge. I searched for quite some time at one point and gave up. Same goes for the RM/RMZs...SOL... Sad

Dont listen to this guy lol! The 09+ 4 stroke rear hub is wayy different. The bearing od is much smaller but the ID is bigger. You can sleave a 2t axle to fit a 4t hub, not ever the other way around though.

It is my firm belief that the old hubs were way better, so much more bearing. They seemed to last longer but ive never really tested that theory

you should be fine switching the 2000 and 04 around. as mentioned 09 is when they changed. as also mentioned you can make spacers to use the new wheels on the older bikes. I have made them but I'm not sure I have the drawing for the correct dimensions any more.

Skerby and Team Ideal are right on the money. The All two strokes and thumpers up to 08 were 22mm axle diameter. Thumpers from 09+ are 25mm rear axles.

The front axle also changed in 2014, it's larger on the four strokes.
