45 second laps

Edited Date/Time 5/1/2016 2:26am
Who decided that this season it would be a good idea to just shave 10 seconds of each lap? I know it equates to more advertising for sponsors but who else is it helping? I for one would rather see racing than ads.

It's helping the sport grow because it's within the average person's attention span...

A big plus, also, is if you have no plans of racing Motocross this summer, there's really no need for fitness for
young men of that age...

IMO They do not have enough dirt most weeks. The jumps are too small and the riders can carry way too much speed around most of the tracks. The only times the laps slow down is when the tracks get so rutted that they can't go wide open every where.

Get with the program, OP. You are already a fan, you don't matter....There are far more important folks to pander and sell to that aren't you, no matter how much you've spent over the last 20 years. . Just be happy with TV. Also, pick up that can.

Last week was mid 50s. I thought Malcolm made a good comment, he said he doesn't know how they are going 47 second lap times. I think the bikes are so good now that to get 55-1 min lap times every week dirt wurx going to have to rethink what a supercross track should look like.

This week the rhythms are much easier and track has a lot more flow. Last week it had no flow which led to slower lap times.

Every year folks are bummed about 45sec lap times. SX has had some of these short races for as long as I can remember.

Its the racing for anyone who rides...and its the fire and everything else for non-riders

I made a comment on the racer x site a few years back about the sx and ringling bros connection and it seemed to piss a few people off over there. They even took a jab at me in on of the racerheads segments over it. It's pretty sad what a clown show the energy drink era of mx/sx has become...monster jams little bro

Can't make a profit if it last all night. It's about the dollar in not out. That's today's world. If they could get them in and out in 5 hours they would.

You guys are a bunch of conspiracy theorists. The stadiums have been the same size for always. The bikes are the only things that change drastically. They get faster and faster, the suspension gets better, and they have more grip.

One could also argue the intensity of the competition has gone up as well. The bikes are easier to ride fast, which comes with more and more confidence, less mistakes, and willingness to push harder. The fitness training seems to increase with every year as well.

All things considered, the lap times should be even less than they are...

THE LAP TIMES ARE ONLY 5.8 SECONDS FASTER ON AVERAGE THEN THEY WERE IN THE 80's/90's/EARLY 2000's!!!!!!

I've done rough calculations using an aggregate of 12 random races from 20 seasons, using 1st place and 10th place, starting in 1984 and ending in 2004 (when 4 strokes completely took over), and compared that to the average of the 2015/216 seasons.

In conclusion, blame it on cams and valves if you have to blame it on something, or just accept the natural evolution of the sport.

That''s not true, and it is because of the lack of dirt (in an effort to cut costs) as stated above by some of the others.

This one had 1:15 lap times (also the best SX track ever IMO)

This one around a minute flat

This one around 57 sec (one of the best SX races ever, 7 different leaders)

The tracks have absolutely changed in the last 10 years. They haven't been this fast overall since the late 70s early 80s... The 90s and 00s were filled with peakier, shorter jump designs, more obstacles, bigger whoops and different options.

I totally agree!

In addition to all of the above items you just mentioned, the 90's and 00's were also filled with FAR better racing (much to the credit of the two strokes and more technical track designs)
