What is everyones opinion of the best tracks for outdoors? First off they need to be equally spread out throughout the country, after all it is the NATIONALS, not the AMA Eastern series. Take into account dirt potential, venue potential, spectating, accessibility, ect.
I am very sad to see Glen Helen off the map, with Washougal potentially close behind. These are legends that made the motocross world what is. Tracks like these have set the bar.. people from all over THE WORLD have come to ride these places. Lets not let them go down in vain.
I think we should have 5 rounds on the west third of the US, 5 in the center, and 5 on the east. No repeat rounds, and not multiple rounds within an hour of each other.
I think Glen Helen and Washougal should be kept. Hangtown, Im not a fan of over the rest of the year, but that track does a 180 for Opening weekend. Id like to see a Round somewhere in Nevada or idaho as well. Obvioulsy we have quite the selection in texas. Southwick is another one of my favorites. Nice to see one down in florida maybe?

I was just curious as to what everyone thought.
I think they should come up with 20, and draw the selected amount out of a hat each year and that determines the race and the order.
I know there are some places in TX that have HILLS and a more natural track can be built. That stupid Mid Ohio copy track there needs to go BYE BYE!!
It's bad enough they have the racing series chris crossing the USA two or three times per season. How fugging stupid is that shit!!!!
If the series is going to be run by Dicktation then at least make some good fugging decisions doing so ...DAVEY

Davey will tell you that the team managers, riders, and sponsors all hated Glen Helen.... Then he will tell you he is listening to the people that matter, mainly the managers, riders, and sponsors... I've heard other sports where the athletes do not like a certain venue, haven't really seen MLB, NBA, or NFL take a venue away because the sthletes don't like it..
Lots of people say DC knows what he is doing, I just don't happen to be one... Live TV is over rated for mx???
I never did understand that. I mean...why do that to the teams/those that do the heavy lifting for the teams/riders? I don't know...way too many damn politics in the sport now. As usual...
And we have to drive 13 hours to glen helen and 33 to colorado. So if glen helen and washougal and hangtown go, it will be 33 hours to a national.
Im just saying it would be nice to have them evenly distributed through out the country as much as possible... just seeing what would be the ultimate circuit for some people.
I don't think anyone ever said that Glen Helen's not on the schedule because the riders don't like it. And what are the major differences between various NFL venues? Whether the athletes get turf toe or not? Or how well they can see themselves on the big monitors? The size of their locker? Or whether there's a spot inside the stadium to park their Bentley?
Same could be said for MLB or NBA.
Now that aside, there are riders who don't like Glen Helen. But some of them probably have beefs with other tracks, too. Just because they can go incredibly fast around them doesn't mean that they like to.

And to follow-up on your statement, Montreal used to have a baseball team, but the Expo stadium sucked and the team moved. LA used to have a couple of football teams in the Coliseum, but it didn't work out due to the lack of sky boxes, parking, and a tough neighborhood. There's a bunch of towns in Canada that no longer have their hockey teams, and Indianapolis used to host an F1 race until the racers basically demanded they stop going there after their tires fell apart....
And while live and same-day TV and live internet may not be for you, it is what all of the athletes, all of the teams, and all of their sponsors -- and pretty much all of the fans but maybe you -- seem to want, so that's what we're trying to do. I'm sorry that we can't accommodate you and not show it at a more convenient time for you, but that's what those TiVo and DVR deals are made for.
As for the travel pattern, the teams want the series to start in California, which it does, and end in California, which it now also does. They want the X Games weekend off, which they have. Hangtown can't run on Memorial Day due to the American River Regatta there, so we don't go there that weekend. So the series goes from CA, to Texas, to Pennsylvania, to Maryland (back on its traditional Father's Day date), back out to Colorado (needs to be early to not hurt the MXoN crowd), and then up to Red Bud, which has always run on July Fourth and is the biggest stop on the schedule... Then Minnesota (which moved to help travel last year), then Washougal. And yes, Washougal, which is still on the schedule, though it can really only run the last weekend in July due to their permits. Then many of the teams want to go back to LA for the X Games, so we take the week after Washougal off. And then yes, it's back East for Unadilla, Southwick and Steel City, then home to SoCal.
The industry also doesn't like to run on Loretta Lynn's because so many folks go there to meet-and-greet and do industry-related things. Parts Unlimited, which sponsors a ton of riders through Thor, Pro Circuit, Alpinestars, Scott and a grip of other companies, has their annual homecoming deal in August and asks that we don't run that weekend so they can have all of their workers and top riders on hand in Janesville, Wisconsin....
Oh, and one more thing: High Point ran on Memorial Day Weekend from 1978 until last year. We moved it so that Glen Helen could take that weekend last year to help the teams and their crowd. Kind of regret that now, but it was for the greater good.

I regret it too. Every year I had the perfect excuse not to go to my family reunion because it was on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. Not that it matters now that the races are on Saturday but I did loose my excuse. On the plus side I did win at horseshoes and play cards with my drunken uncles and learn what fat Aunts to avoid. I now have so much (this is for you) handmade sewing circle crap in my house I could open a flea market. Thanks DC.
