The professor is still going strong but has simi retired for this year. I had the honor of attending a weekend class at Steele Creek in Morganton , Nc in 1971. Gary was on the Bultaco and also done tricks on a trials bike. Blew my mind away. He still does.
Now my daughter has been 5 times and we will be going more this year. He really is in tune with what it takes to go fast safely. We have been to group classes but we like the 1:1 with him best. He has a way to get you to do stuff you havent done before. His wife Diana is a perfect match for him and makes a great chilli hotdog among other things. The both of them work so well together. He dont ride much any more because of his knees being shot . He does ride wheelies and does it very well. Sometimes he gets on my daughters bike to show the proper body position and will ride a small circle and even that he can impress you with his smoothness.
All in all he is the coolest MX guy you will ever meet and he will bench race with you till midnite at his museum behind his house.
Give him a call and get the best training in the world !

Yes , He gave my daughter one last november when we at his house. Its a great book and you will enjoy it very much. The Professor truly is the only one in his class. He can spot a problem all away across the track and has you figured out in less than a lap . He tells great stories about what it takes to be the best. If you have watched " on any sunday" you remember the part about the desert race that spotlighted Malcom Smith winning the race. Not. Gary said he never saw Malcom Smith during the race, and said to me " malcom missed all three check points each lap and how can a guy win if he misses the check points? " Gary said " I have the trophy for that race" , " Malcome came up on stage and grabed the mic form me and said " yall know I won " and threw the mic down stomping off the stage" Gary showed me the trophy to prove it. There is a photo of it in the book. We always look forward to going to see him.

True story.
Way back, late 60's maybe early 70's.
Annapolis Md, Basum's Farm, he's there on a 250 bul and going at it with the local top guy, also on a Bultaco. Back and forth the whole race, last lap our guy goes under
Gary in a long left hand sweeper. Bailey goes wide, his hand piercing the red
snow fence for maybe 10 feet. He didn't wear gloves, and he never let off.
You could see it pissed him off, 2nd to the last turn he flat out slid his bike
into the leader, taking both of 'em out.

He wasn't even trying to make the turn, just flat cleaned our guy out.

They both got up but Gary's bike had stalled, and the local guy won.
The whole freakin cow pasture erupted, one of the best MX races I've ever seen.
Another lap and things would have been different, but he was cool about it. Made an impression on one young kid for sure.

I worked for GBMX twice in my life.

Some stories aren't meant to be told.

I went to Gary Baily's school at Platte City, Missouri back in...ummmm... was it 1974? Geez, I'm getting old...

Franz Karsmakers was a guest rider as I remember.

Great school.

Been to several schools and they are worth much more than what you pay for them...... Reminds me I really need a refresher course.........

I remember Gary & David racing at Big Berm on the Bulls in either 1976 or 77

My dad and I went last spring to his class. It was held in Southern Missouri and it was a complete mind blowing experience. Gary is a class act and we both were relieved to not get tagged by the riding crop!! We also bought the book and it is amazing, while we there we also had him sign his original MX teaching book. If I get the chance I would love to run into him at a SX or maybe even get to Lake Sugar Tree and get schooled again!!
