Curiosity here. I remember several years ago, KTM made a one-off 200SX for Broc Sellards. I'm just curious how complex that conversion would be... Will a 200XC top-end drop onto a 125/150SX bottom end?

I imagine there would be some case mods involved for the bigger piston skirt to clear?

If it was a one-off, then Canadian Pro Ryan Lockhart swiped Broc's bike.

He rode the 200 in a few late-season regional races after the national series had finished. That would have to be at least 5 years ago.

Do a search on KTMtalk.com
They do that conversion, BUT you have to change the crank shaft and a few other parts to make it work.

i think if you could do it a 200 2 stroke would keep with a 250 4 banger.
just dont get caught if you are racing the cc classes that could be cheating.

Lockhart rode his 200 in the "big bike" class and the whole time he was on the track I just kept thinking, "what a weapon that little beast would be INDOORS."

Bring on that big pig 450 for a hockey rink race ... and the little KTM that could beat even 250 2-strokes on the right track would show you the way around.

Arenacross rocketship...betcha there are guys wishing something similar existed today.

if the rules would allow it 200 2st and 300 2st would be pretty fair game
against the 250 4st and 450 4st
lighter prob just as fast and premix smell

KTM did produce a 200SX in 2003/4. Someone on KTM Talk did the conversion with a 2008 125 and 144 bottom end with the 200SX top end. He may be able to help you out.

They do still make a 200EXC. A dealer in Indiana is marketing them. Or maybe it was an xc.

There's a new 200XCW locally, too. I'm just looking at options at this point. I'm waffling between a new 150 or 250SX, and I said to myself: "Self, how about a 200SX?" I could buy a used 150 and build it.

The KTMtalk threads are very detailed and informative descriptions of others' experience in building them. Thanks to the guys who suggested them and provided the links.

Terry:

If you need more information, I can ask Jim if you can e-mail him.

He's a really good guy & lives local to me.

In 06' the 200 cylinder was based on the 125 lower half. The 200 head pipe was larger than the 125 but. The conversion was as simple as changing cylinders and pipe to go from a 125 to a 200.

I'm not sure if that remains true from 07' on as there were some crank changes and cylinder mods made from that year on and we moved onto Jap bikes at that point.

Our mechanic was a big woods rider and was always trying to get the boys to try out his 200.
