db was the best ever.
Art Eckman didn't seem to know much about racing but he knew alot about the racers, if that makes any sense.
Despain is good and very knowledgeable. I always liked his style.
Maiers was good, but he got a little cheesy sometimes.
Todd Huffman was really bad in my opinion. I remember one time he got the city wrong that the race was happening in! During the race.
Pingree always seemed like he was not into it because he was in a studio watching a screen

I think Emig does a good job. He is not really meant to be a circus barker...he's the knowledge end of things-- and he fills that role pretty well.

Rob Buydos and Weege. They would blow the whole thing up. You don't need an ex pro.... ever in any sport to do color commentating.

I agree, it would be awesome if the showed the heats. Even though the comentary was sub par it was awesome to watch everything straight through. If there was a pay per view package of any kind that offered that for MX/SX I would purchase it in a heart beat.

Compared to Scott Russell in the booth for AMA Supermoto, Emig is fantastic.

exactly. maybe Emig could be the floor guy.... that's where his past and knowledge would be best used.... he would have lots of time to think about his next sentence = better mojo.

I like Emig, and the other guy is ok at what he was hired to do. But his voice is so aggrivating, like finger nails on a chalk board!

Isn't that getting a little tired? It's been a decade since that happened, for God's sake.

Get Larry Huffman with David Bailey again. Bailey was so good at analyzing stuff and giving the average fan a great perspective of whats going on. And Huffman is just exciting as hell!

"And he goes down faster than an Idaho Thermometer in January!" Classic!

I've been an announcer (MX and RR) for about a dozen years now, still do it once a month for CCS Road Racing Florida, so I have a small amount of knowledge and experience (and I am a damn good announcer).

Emig is doing fine. He doesn't suck.

His lead in's are weak. It's a team game in the announcing booth and when one of the wheels is flat the whole thing slows to a crawl.

Shaheen has a solid voice and is a good announcer, in other things.
They've tossed a voice in the booth who has no real knowledge or experience in the sport and it shows.
Fro can "show him the ropes" all day, every day, but it would still never match the knowledge of some (a few) on here.
IMO, Ralph is out of hie element, plain and simple.

However, tossing in two moto guys may not be the best solution for TV.
TV is not the same as a radio/web broadcast, it works different and the audience is different.
Webcast audience is hardcore and knows the sport.
TV audience will have a large segment of noobs and posers, thus they know little and must be catered to.
You can't speak over your audience's head.

Fro is fine, what he needs is a more experienced race (motorsports) announcer like Alan Bestwick (like, I said "like").
Someone who is more in touch with a familiar with racing.

They're trying to work Ralph into it, and he is trying, but you can tell he lacks basic understanding of racing or a racer's mentality.

But Fro is fine.

Sheheen, spent to much time talking about the fireworks...I guess the shrooms must have been kicking in !
Holley, and Wiegant are the best by a long shot

Other than having nine months to edit...how did Jim McKay do it so well with so little experience in the sport?

Actually, I'd say the best duo would be Bailey and Weigandt.

Jim Holley GREAT GUY, but that guy talks over the top of weigant all the time, and he is way to excited, like 3 or 4 Monsters too many excited. If the bring back the web cast thats where he belongs not TV.

Weigant and Fro would be solid

Bailey is probably the best choice of any, too bad Dave Despain has his deal, he loves Motocross and isnt a douche bag like Shaheen

Sheheen's role is obviously to cater to noobs. But you CAN speak over your audiences head... if you do it right. In fact, NOT having every detail spelled out for you in the most pedestrian way is what makes getting into a new sport exciting. It leaves you wanting to know more.

Weege would bring everything and more than what we get from Sheheen. Emig's insight and racing experience is useless if he can't spit it out quickly.
