I am flying into Tampa Wed. evening. Anything around the airport to keep somebody busy? Any restaurant recommendations? Never been to St. Pete before.

Not sure yet, may have a rental, may have to taxi.

Taxi's in Florida are a joke.
They can get you out of the airport, but getting back is another issue...you'll wait forever, if they show at all.

That is comforting. Hopefully I can just get a good rental and run the hell out of it then.

Better off to rent
Right by the airport is a causeway that goes to Clearwater, I like it there and there's a few nice places to eat that aren't too tourist trap'ish

Looks like my meeting is just outside Gulfport. Definitely renting now. Looks like a night out on the town by the airport, and lunch in Gulfport.

My grand parents live near clearwater, last time I was down there I stopped at this cool tiki hut type place just over the causeway it was pretty good.

A good place to get some food in drinks in Clearwater Beach is Frenchys. I think there are about four of them, but the one that sits on the beach is by far the best one. There is also a cool little bar called Kellys that has live music and cheap drinks. I think its $3.00 for a Corona and all other domestics are around $2.00 If you don't want to go to the beach you could always go to Clearwater and visit the birthplace of Hooters. As every other Hooters, good looking women and good food.

Frenchys is good.
I usually go to the one just north of the end of the causeway

Well the newly "unified" indycar series is in St. Pete this weekend. You could watch the champ car boys give the IRL drivers a run for their money on the street course.

Go to Red Mesa in St Pete on the main street. Very good south western with a twist. I think it is 4th st.

Try out this restaurant it's in the International Mall right next to the airport.

The food is fantastic!

There's also this place that's across from the same mall, it 's good as well.

And then of corse you have the best place to eat in all of Tampa/Clearwater and it's only 15min. from the airport.

If you want to go into St Pete, Fourth Street Shrimp House is our favorite.

I lived out there for 6 months several years back (2001) for some training. Had an apt in St Petes and would drive into Tampa across that bridge. We used to drive to this part of downtown--tons of people and parties all the time--weird name for it?? Lots of fights, drunks and all. Was fun at the time...but wouldn't be caught there now. It was the first time I got real drunk on Red Bull and Stoli...and last.

I just remember the hot wings and beer. It seems like everyone drinks non-stop. And the day-glo lycra...I was amazed people were still wearing it. I did drive by that bar Rich owned --The Green Parrot?? Was in a strip mall. Never really cared to stop by.

Oh yeah...stay away from BBQ's unless you have bug repellent...I remember when I left I had chigger bites all over me. Nasty little fckers. And the bikini bars are easy women!!!

Holy crap! I went to that bar all the time way back when. They had the only nickel beer night on Wendnesday's in town.

I had know idea Rich had anything to do with the place.

That's it. Around 2am I would always see a fight in the steet that was closed off. Women were easy...then we you got them out of the club and in light you knew why.

I live in Clearwater and it is a mad house right now. If you try to get to the beach from Tampa it will be 1-2 hours. Spring breakers everywhere.

A friend recommended The Cattle Company....said they had the best steaks in town. Any truth to this? I already go directions and plan on hitting it up Wednesday night....depending on what the locals say.
