x2. on the dual sport. I bought a xr650r with a plate last summer for $2000. I never got the dual sport thing until I bought one. That thing gets like 65 mpg. Its awesome when you can just pull off the road onto a trail. Its also amazingly fun to mess with harleys on, it just blows them out of the water acceleration wise.

You may loose some rear wheel bearings around 60,000, but Toyo will warrant them. You also need to replace the oil pick up screen at 100,000. I have about 15 of those with 200,000 plus that kick ass and take names daily.

Never thought you would catch me looking at one of those but my buddy and I went to 2 shops today looking at the 650KLRs. We had the thoughts of riding to our dirt road areas instead of hauling our bikes out.

Not to sound like an ass, but why does that make you think your saving money? You just spent thousands on a car? :? Im willing to bet you now have a car payment... right? Doesnt make sense to me.. diesel out here is 4 bucks a gallon. Its been $3.25-3.50 a gallons for the past few years. so say Im paying $50 cents more per gallon. 26 gallon tank, that makes my fillups roughly $15 bucks more per fill up. So I go through a tank per week, thats an extra $60 bucks per month. You can spend that in 2 weeks at starbucks.. I just dont get get what the big deal is? Is $60-100 bucks per month really worth taking on a another car? What about insurance on that car? What about maintenance on that car? seems silly to me? :?[/quote:2abvacb9]I bought it because I have been averaging almost $700 a month in fuel for the truck. If I cut that to a 1/3 and add in the car payment and insurance, I still save 200 a month. Plus I save the wear and tear on the truck and my maaintenance costs are cut way down.

That still doesnt make sense to me.. so you were spending $700 bucks a month on gas, so now you will be spending $350-400 per month. Thats doubling your gas milage from your duramax. Sounds to me like your bragging about buying jr. a brand new car. What happened to when you were a kid you got to buy one of your relatives played out rides for 100 to 500. If your thinking about buying another one, you have enough money to buy gas at just about any price. So go some other place and bitch. Made my kid buy his own 89 honda for 350.00 , car is older than him and he loves it .Even with some surface rust and character dents already there at no extra charge !!

Say you drive 500 miles a week...

Duramax = 18 miles per gallon (very high average).
27.8 gallons of fuel @ $3.95 per gallon = $109.81 per week = $475.84 per month

Little car = 30 miles per gallon
16.7 gallons of fuel @ $3.39 per gallon = $56.61 per week = $245.31 per month

If you don't have a payment, you could save some money...if you have a $300.00 payment, it will cost you money.

its like the same kind of fun when you first start getting into motocross and you can't stay off the bike. I never expected it to be.

I ended up putting full street tires on my 650r and that added a whole new dimension. Backroads just become a race track. I got in trouble at college to table topping a stair way with it that some bmxers were trying to clear. still does pretty well in semi tame offroad stuff. I can't wait for riding season to hit again. I'm tempted to throw the hrc kit in the bike or something similar but will probably wait to see if they do in fact come out with the rumored street legal crf700 based of that new quad using the efi 650r engine. the 650r has to be one of the best do anything bikes ever made.

I just parked my f150. I bought a used Toyota solara. I am selling the truck so I will be going from:

F150 $338 payment, $400 a month in gas.
Toyota Paid for, $ less than $150 in gas.

I will re-coup what I spent on the Toyota in less than 6 months.

Plus you get a new car out of it. Otherwise your money would be wasted on fuel with nothing to show for it at the end of the year.

Your oil change on the diesel shold last twice as long as the Yaris. You change your oil in your diesel every 3,125 miles? That's the way you have it broken down above...

Wow.....

Computer tells me when to change the oil, from 5 to 10 thousand miles depending on the driving conditions (it tracks load, speed, temp, stop and go, hwy, etc). Have a restriction guage on the air cleaner (still got a long way to go on that, and that's after Baja and thousand of miles in the desert, including the 3 miles of dirt roads I drive down every day). I think I've spent as much on oil in my truck since I bought than you do in one change.

Those things are wicked cool for advertising. Wrap one and you got a rolling sign. Not to mention low cost. To purchase and operate. But the one thing that I just cant get behind is the short distance from windshield to imapct. I haven't really seen the inside of one so I don't know if thats a reality. And to be honest with you I have never seen one in a traffic collision.

For all I know it could be like the X5 and the safest thing on the road. What do you think of the safety?

I'm not gonna lie, it concerns me being in such a small car. But, that being said, I just drive safe and hope no one torpedoes me.

I bought a 1991 Metro a couple months ago for $250. I've filled it up twice. I've stuck about $42 in gasoline into it and I get 46mpg.

Yeah, that's right...a Metro.

[quote="T-Fish123":1t3lquuf]I bought a 1991 Metro a couple months ago for $250. I've filled it up twice. I've stuck about $42 in gasoline into it and I get 46mpg.

Yeah, that's right...a Metro.[/quote:1t3lquuf]
3 cylinders of fury. Me and a buddy of mine got busted in high school for driving his Metro down the sidewalks to class. But hey, it was raining!

pretty interesting thread.

Few things on the Diesel. it's not ever going to be cheaper than gas. They changed the way they make it and it's always going to cost more now.

Change that oil on the Diesel every 3-5K if you don't you will pay a healthy price in the long run.

I do find it odd we Americans don't like fuel prices and buy extra vehicles that burn more fuel to make ourself feel better.

I don't know how much you guy's pay for insurance but I doubt I could add a car and save any money let alone the operating costs ect.

The clean energy projects are what've been pouring in to our design firm recently. Aside from the Infinia projects (you can see these on the web) we're doing, I'm also involved in yet another project that, hopefully, will reduce/eliminate the love we Americans have for our cars. Operating costs of vehicles are going through the roof. I've read reports where it's estimated that an average car costs about $12K per year to operate, when a person includes all operating expenses, interest payments, and depreciation.

I won't divulge the details about the new project until September when, hopefully, it's installed at the pilot site. Regardless, expect to see some offerings that hopefully park a lot of our vehicles, puts that money back into our pockets, and reduces our interest in the middle east and its oil.
