AMA Amateur Racing?

Edited Date/Time 1/24/2012 4:10am
How does the AMA sell off to the Daytona group effect AMA Amatuer Racing? And if nothing right now, what impact might it have down the road?

No, they only sold AMA Pro Racing

Amateur is unaffected

Gives them more time to "handle" thier affairs, one of which is AMA Amatuer racing. So it maybe that we get more attention.

not sure if that is good or bad.

It will probably be a lot like "We're from the Government and we're here to help.."

I thought amatuers earned "Pro Points" or some such that enabled them to get their Pro License. If there is AMA Pro Racing anymore and no affiliation with MX, and as many reports allude to SX will go away from AMA as well one way or another, how are these changes going to effect the transition from Amateur to Pro?

Yeh, I guess I am comfused a bit on the depth of the sale.

If the AMA basically is out of the Pro Racing business...ie National Motocross. Will they still be AMA events, using AMA rules, refereeing events, etc?

I guess I am confused as what all the selling of AMA Proracing effects.

If they are getting totally out of Pro Racing altogether, does this at all effect amateurs than will be transitioning to the Pro level?

I was just wondering if Daytona would change the way amateurs earn their right to ride professionally.

No. The AMA is still the sanctioning body and everyone will still follow the AMA rules.

Is the Daytona group stuck with using the AMA as their sanctioning body if they don't want to?

Actually, DMG will be the sanctioning group. The AMA sold the sanctioning rights to them also. DMG will license the name "AMA Pro Racing" so that people will recognize the series. It adds legitimacy I suppose.

This is correct
DMG can do anything they want (pretty much) including rule changes

Like I said the other day, everything you knew is dead

Okay. That is what I thought and that is where my initial confusing question started from.

Since the AMA is "dead", and most if not all amatuer AMA based racing is geared toward turning riders ultimately in PROs via Lorretta Lynns, dictating bike sizes, to amateurs earning points for a "pro license".

My basic question, Is all that DEAD too? Will riders still be required to earn some "points" before they get their pro license, will DMG control the displacement on the bikes? Has any of this been addressed as of yet? The trickle down effect to the amateur level could be big.

While the devil is always in the details, I'm sure there is some reciprocal program on advancement to pros
Only makes sense, considering DMG's program is pro only and I am sure the contract stipulates some level of non-compete, meaning no amateur for DMG
