76 yz80, my first race bike with a powerband. i was doing wheelies at will all over the track.
78 cr 250. i was 100 lbs soaking wet. had just come off of an rm100, that 250 was too much bike for me. it impacted me into the ground several times. after several soil samples, 1 concussion, and 14 months later, i could ride it decently and place ok in the amatuer class.
81 rm125 - my favorite, it was a dream to ride.

brin...that happened to me but i was on the other end..getting smoked by better bikes and marginal riders (not that you were the latter)[/quote:2gx637u6]
Hah. Bobby, I'm so marginal, I doubt that I could carry your wooden leg. I certainly would not have been able to hang with you around 76, but it would have been fun to try.

Not mine, but a neighbor's.
I coveted thy neighbor's ride.
Don't I know it. I was living proof. The good thing for me is I got a head start on everyone. I was still ripping the class after everybody else got theirs. The bike was so forgiving and confidence-inspiring. Plus I picked up a 250 Elsie, too, which I thought - if this is possible - was even better than the 125. Ripping around on the 250 made the tiddler feel like it had the power of a Rupp. And, when I got back on the 250, I tended to ride it like it was the 125: WFO. People thought I was nuts on that 250. Good times.
my dad says...sorry son, it ain't yer fault. lmao bought me the yz250 soon after. hahaha

Dude. You WERE going backwards. Those 74 YZ125s were the worst ones ever about firing up in reverse. And all this time you just thought you were slow.
no shit jess....hahahahaha
beat the hell outta my mx 125

Someone passed you? Must have the wrong Bobby. This Bobby I saw was a fricken stud on 'dem Open Maicos...
Roy Seiler, Danny Olsen, Al Hall(think Al was first name) were all on them CR125 back when they came out and were hecka fast then in '74 expert. When those bikes came out, tombstones for the Buls, KX's, YZ's, RM's, Pentons too.
They were like 180 lbs, so friggen light....wish I was still 180....
Late in racing, my '90 YZ 250. Felt could never do no wrong. Inspired me to ride with so much confidence.
Heck. owned over 30 new bikes. It was my passion; and still is. '84 KX 125 another sooo fun to ride/race. Another confidence building bike.
MX forever.
Anyone knows of a 1990 YZ 250 for sale? Not totally thrashed; reasonably well kept like I did all mine.[/quote:snu9fkxh]
I missed out on the sweetest 90 YZ250 on Craigslist a month ago. Looked damn near new! Was only asking $1300.00 and the gas tank was still white! I bought one new back in 1990 and man was that thing a beast. Low to mid monster that would fall flat on its face in the upper end. My first race EVER and I pulled a huge holeshot. Didn't last long though and the "biggest impact" occurred on lap three.

Hey newmann, I think I saw the same one. Looked like it had been barely ridden...Thought it was almost pasted from a old MX magazine pic, that's how good the bike looked...I was really suspicious and took myself out from buying it. That too good to be true, it usually is really; hit me on that bike. My first pro race on it, got great start, was third for like two laps then petered out. Didn't realize the intensity would take all the work physically I had done outta me. I loved the low-mid hit it had, but the way it handled was like you could do no wrong; so confidence inspiring.
I had the biggest impact in moto 2, the E st track got sooo rough and swapped out. Concussion city.
Thanks everyone for the thought and responses for my quest. I did also like my '92 RM250 and updated '93/'94 RM 250.
I guess I got too many bikes I like. But that '90 YZ 250 was so awesome. Thanks for your post.
I am going to continue to find a decently taken care of one. Anyone that knows or hears of one; just PM or post and let me know.
Thanks, Andy
A borrowed 87 CR500 left a huge impression on me. Put me in the hospital for three months with a number of internal injuries. I still got a trophy though!
My 93 RM 125 was the last tiddler I ever owned. I wish I could get that bike back. It was an old Tuf racing bike I picked up third hand and it was a freaking rocketship. I holeshot my age class at washougal one year on a 125! Admittedly it was the +30C class, but it was unlimited displacement and a looong uphill start straight.
And the latest bike to make a big impact on me has been my 04 CRF450 supermoto. It taught me not to try and get more than a year or two of extreme high rpm riding out of a modern 4 stroke unless you like the poorhouse. Love the bike. It honks like nobodies business, but not easy on the pocketbook by any stretch.

that's pure moto all the way.
in 04, a YZF400 did me in. Bought it from dirtysmile for a pitance. He was always smart enough to just cruise on it.
The bike's engine was modded and it sounded so damn good. I had some of my best races and riding in the hills on that bike.
Sorry guys I was trying to e-mail these to larry to see if he could tell me what year this bike was, my 16 yr old step daughter said she could post them no problem. Anyway here's the story:
I was with a buddy and we went to his older brothers to help him with some stuff, I saw this bike in the corner of his barn ( really a true barn story ) I asked him about it and he said he used it to get around college 20+ years ago and had not rode it since. I asked him about it and he said i could have it, he was sick of moving it around, it was FILTHY, I cleaned it up replaced fluids, and it fired up!! it ran like shit but I lost intrest in it but when I saw the pic Larry posted I thought he could help with info on it , sorry to hi-jack!!
Thanks Larry, we have thought about getting tags for it but it still sits in the back of the garage, it cleaned up so well we just wanted to ride it around town.

That would be pretty cool to tool around on her. Probably gets 50 miles to the gallon and will run till the end of time if treated well.
