Hey Travis,

I'm going to try to answer this the best I can. I don't know if it will make sense but I hope I can give a little advice.

I feel everyone handles life in their own way. I know I am a very competitive person as I believe my brother is. As kids we always were very competitive with each other. Jeff has a lot of natural talent and I feel I have a better work ethic. We both had success and we both had failures. I believe being encouraging to each other when we were young kept us close. I know there were times we shoved certain things in each others faces as a lot of siblings do.

When you live your life in the "limelight" it takes a certain balance to handle it. I'm not going to lie, there have been times I have gone on here or other social media sites and things people have said have really bothered me… Some things stuck with me for days. I finally learned that it doesn't matter what people I have never met or maybe met a few times have to say about me. I know who I am as a person and I try to be the best person I can be every day. I try to stay humble and let people see me as a person and not a famous superstar that a lot may think I am.

I think the best thing you can do for your sons is to always encourage them and let them know how proud you are of them, even if they don't win a race or get the holeshot lol. Make sure they know you will always support them and be there for them. If one seems to progress more then the other try to balance the "great jobs" between them. Don't give one more attention because he does better or is more talented,

I don't know if this will make any sense to you or will help but I feel its the best answer I can give.

P.S. I wear the tinted goggles because I am very sensitive to light
This is awesome and in my opinion the best QNA so far on Vital. You have spent a lot of time responding to questions and I am sure you have a pretty busy week between races. Its also cool how your brother comes and posts on here; interesting to hear from a pro's perspective from time to time. You guys have taken a lot of flak from keyboard warriors, but I think you guys have handled it very well. Thanks again for doing this, it is always neat when your favorite athlete actually responds to forums like this. Good luck to you and Jeff this weekend!!!

P.S., Sorry, but buy your Mom the mower!!!! lol

Thanks. Got to say I was a little nervous when Guy B asked me if I wanted to do this. Wasn't sure which way it would go since I always seem to have bad press on here. Lol. I like to talk to my fans and I'm actually having a good time doing this. Been trying to fit it in between riding and training. I'm currently on my way to St. Louis. I'm in the Chicago airport right now.

Can't blame you for being nervous, this place hasn't been the most friendly to you and your family. I am glad the way it has turned out. I am from Kansas City and used to love going the St. Louis Supercross. Actually got to sit at a table in Planet Hollywood right next to Team Yamaha after Doug Henry won a race there and I got to see Emig beat Mcgrath in 1996. Always been a fun race to go to for me.

I must be out of the loop, but why does it start at 2 pm this year? Might be a nice change of pace the riders? How do you like it being different? Does it mess up your routine at all? I am sure you guys get into schedule, but sometimes change can be nice.

Mike,

Thanks for coming on here, sure seems like you're adding to the 800 fan base.

You've always had a great work ethic. During the race season, both SX and MX. What's you're typical week like Monday thru Friday? How many hours a day on the bike, and at the gym training? What's your go to form of cardio training? Everyday? How many hours a week?

Thanks again for doing this. By the way, your speed through the whoops has really picked up a lot! Keep up the great work, and good luck in St. Louis!

Legit question this time: Since you have the option to ride whichever brand you want to, what was the deciding factor in choosing the Honda over the Suzuki you've been riding for so long?

Hey mike we have met once or twice and I'm a huge fan of you and your team mate Friese because of the kind of young upstanding guys you are. Your honest, humble and fun loving, in addition very giving when you don't have to be, and when many others wouldn't be. I'm proud to be considered one of your fans and friends because of who you are off the bike and on.

On a different note, congrats on a well prepared, hard working and successful 2016 SX series. Many people would not have believed that you would been able to make the mains in this very stacked field but yet week in and week out your right there in the mix. Your a true pro in every way that many other racers aren't able to match in so many ways.

Stay being the guy you are.

P.S. You are a bad ass racer.

I have to say I'm not sure why it starts early? I am guessing television broadcast? I know New York was a day race last year. And Foxborough is next week also. I am excited to see how a day race goes. Not too pumped on track walk being at 7am when its usually at 10:30 but being done by 5pm is a bonus. This will be my first day Supercross race so I am trying to figure out do I eat breakfast at the track and what types of food I need to change around. It is a little loop in the program but we will figure it out.

My week during the season is not as heavy as off season. Every week varies on when I have to leave to go to the race. I usually try to ride 2-3 days a week. My cardio is mostly done on a road bike. I try to get a few days off gym in as well. In the off season the work load is a heavier.

During the off season Motocross Action was nice enough to let me try some of the 2016 bikes. I didn't get a chance to try the Kawi or Husky. In my test I really liked the Honda and the KTM. The Suzuki I had been racing on for the past 4 years prior was a 2012. I really liked the chassis and the way it flexed. The problem was the bike was too outdated to continue with. When I rode the KTM the power was really strong. In the end I picked the Honda because I liked how light and nimble the bike was. It was really easy to handle and to turn. Hope that helped.

The INFAMOUS GIZ….

I've heard you are quite a LEGEND on this Moto Board.

Thank you for your kind words.

I have changed it up this year and listened to a very wise man who told me I needed to eat more and to have fun. I believe his words helped me this off season as I was shoveling my face with pasta. I have a great family and team who support me and have stood by me as I have struggled these past few years. To all of them I am forever grateful.

Maybe one day we will meet and you will reveal yourself… Until then thanks for being a fan.

I had no idea your Suzuki was that old. Cool insight, thank you.

This thread is a perfect example of the kind of person MA is to the public/fans. When I have had the pleasure to talk to him he always took the time to be answer any questions and was as down to earth as anyone I've met. His answers on here are very well thought out and not the typical 1 sentence responses we see so often on the Q&A's

Best Q&A session by far. Thanks GuyB for asking Mike and thank you MA for taking the time for your fans

Would you rather have robotic arms or legs?
Oh and what did you think of Apex MX track when you rode it over in Worcester (England) last year? Did they give you the track to yourself or did they make you pay the £500 hire fee? Haha!
You've always been a cool dude in my books regardless of what people say. Just remember you have fans across the pond too man.
Take care and all the best.

I liked the Apex track. It was really close to my buddy Brad Turner's house.
Thanks for the support. I had a great time in England last year. I will probably be back.
Thanks for the reply Mike! Smile

I can't help but agree with the majority on here and say that you really have stepped up the game on these QNA sessions and have solidified this as being the front runner so far I reckon. We really do appreciate the time and effort you've put into the responses and I for some really hope you stick around like your bro Jeff does from time to time because this has been really fun to read, so it'll be a real shame when it's over!

So before you leave us, here's some inspiration for you (and your mum):

About the chickens... which breed(s) are preferred at the Alessi homestead? designer, heritage, barnyard mix?
Are they free range or do you keep them penned? Do you have any issues with predation? hawks, weasels, foxes?
Would your mom consider a few goats as opposed to the ZTR mower?
I've been a fan for many years and have always admired your talent, commitment, and work ethic. You are deserving of all the success which your effort and dedication has led to.
How do you feel about the implementaion of a "chase" format in Supercross?
Thanks for coming on and making this one of the best QnAs to date.

Oh boy the chickens….
The wife has all different kinds. We have a lot of solid egg layers such as Red Stars, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks, Easter Eggers.
Then the wife has designer types like Silkies, Sermas, Sizzles, Frizzles, Tolbunts
And she does breed her own chickens so we also have Barn yard Mixes. (She's a little nuts about her chickens. We call her the Crazy Chicken Lady)
All our chickens are free range. We have lost a few to predators because they do not stay in a covered pin during the day and opossums seem to come around at night. She locks all the chickens up at night and that helps.
Danielle and I want some goats but not right now. Its too hard because goats need more attention and we aren't home enough.
I actually am very interested in the chase. I would like to see Supercross go to this format. I believe it benefits guys who struggle in the beginning of the season and then get a stride towards the end. Will make for more exciting racing throughout the entire season.

Mike,

How have you and your Brother dealt with different levels of success? it's just something i see in my own sons, and how each of them deals with the other doing certain things better than the other.

Please let me reiterate that i see it both ways, with different sports, but you have had the limelight a little more in MX so i would just like to know how you deal with it. So in years to come i can have some solid advice (not that i would ever let slip who told me)

pp.s why have you always worn the tinted orange goggles.

Hey Travis, I'm going to try to answer this the best I can. I don't know if it will make sense but I hope I can...

Mike,

Very classy reply. Not to mention intelligent as well.

Good luck to you!

Hey Mike I've got another one for you.

I'm curious to know how 'Silly" the Silly Season ever got for you. Was there ever a deal out there that came really close to happening but didn't. I seem to remember some rumors of you joining Chad at TwoTwo Motorsports one year.

Thanks,

Mike... You look great on the Honda. How much better is it and how much more do you like compared to the Suzuki? Yer looking good through the whoops this year too..no longer a liability to yer speed it appears.
