And feeling normal after my ordeal with pneumonia/Valley Fever/ Whooping Cough for six long weeks, I needed a little pick me up.
It's Arizona Bike Week but it all seems to cater to all the Hardley riders who sit around gawking more than riding.
I needed to RIDE and have been off the dirt bikes but have gone on a couple street bike rides.
Today we did a 200 miler to our favorite breakfast spot with awesome twisty roads.
Dang I love this machine as she definitely got the adrenaline pumping a few times.

It's the Yamaha version of my Aprilia!
Glad you got to get out and flog it.
It's been raining here for a few days, so I'm having a boring weekend.

The Oso memorial site was a bit sobering. It's been just over 2 years since the incident and I'd never been to the site. It looks impossible that the earth moved the way that it did, just unfathomable. The pictures don't do the site justice.
5 reasons why
There's nothing like going out to the garage, turning the key and the FUN begins immediately!
Here is one of our favorite stops along the Central Coast on the way to Laguna Seca last year.
She was LOADED down no doubt.
I absolutely Luv the FZ1's but am more partial to the Gen 1 (2001-2005), with the steel frame (more forgiving) and larger tank. It is a true Sport Tour M/C as you can ride it mellow or if you're feeling frisky ride it in the 8000-9000 RPM range and the R1 inspired genes come out and she acts like a completely different M/C but you better hang on!
The Gen 2's (2006-2012) they made more sportbike like with the STIFFER frame, USD forks, SMALLER fuel tank (50 miles less range), FI and a seat that is a joke for long rides. To me they made a good Sport Tour machine less practical for what it was intended to be.
If you strictly want to go fast with less comfort, you get the R1.
I've had two FZ's. First was a stock 2002 that I sold to my buddy for 2700. It had 18,500 miles on her. He lives in Balboa and it was his first street bike and he did not ride it much. Come to find out he recently sold it much to my dismay, as I probably would have bought it back from him.
Luved that bike and then Blackie (2001) came up for sale on the FZ local forum I'm on. It had some good mods done to her and after pondering about it for a few hours I went to check it out and rode her home.
Check out the FZ1 forum for opinions and the classifieds. You can find clean Gen 1's for under $3K.
If you need any assistance, let me know.
Hope this helps.

I have been itching to get my KLR650 out but it has snowed the last two weekends around here! This weekend looks better so we will see.
Still feeling side effects
Dang pneumonia is some nasty crap. Have you seen a Dr lately?
Hope you feel better soon.
Let me know if you want it it's up in Monterey you could ride it down Highway 1.
It doesn't get better than that bike looks really clean with low miles.

It blows my mind that a new dirt bike cost three times as much as a fine street bike like this one of the many reasons why I dig these bikes.

There are no problems that I know of with these bikes. There is a girl on the forum that has 200,000 miles on hers with basic maintenance!
Here is the forum if you want to sign up and do some research or ask questions.

The bike is in the "Classifieds " section and probably won't last long.
On my 2001 it came with the same handelbar risers he also put Pro Taper bars on there and Ducati Monster mirrors if there is anything to complain about is the mirrors are not the greatest to see out of but there is a fix you can do that's some of the members have done.
It also came with a Akrapovic pipe and he did the JD jet kit. My 2002 ran great with stock jetting.
If you speak to him you should ask him if he started it up at least once a month or so, or put STABIL in the fuel to help prevent the carbs from getting gummed up and if it starts easy and idles fine as is.
The crappy fuel they force on us will effect all carbed bikes unless you take precautions.
Mine also has the front brake lines that are stainless steel and the Corbin seat was a big seller for me as most of my riding is two up.
Those seats cost $500 and you can remove the backrest.
I bought mine with 17000 miles for 2900 bones and have no regrets.
Nothing but smiles every time I get on it.
Pit Row
BTW you're not going to find another Gen 1 with that low mileage.
And from the looks of the guy on the bike from my experience it does not look like he rode very hard. In fact it looks like he hardly rode at all!
I have a guy coming on Saturday to check out the bike. Hope he likes it. It is in great shape.
Bummer
Bailey helped me clean up Blackie for another run.
Went on another ride today up to Roosevelt Lake and lunch in Globe with some old Moto Buds.
Had a mix of Sportbikes and Hardleys.....
It was a good day. There were some nice open twisties--saw 140 on the dreamometer....
She posted this a YEAR ago!
234,000 on the ORIGINAL motor with basic maintenance
Check her blog, that's a lot of riding. http://fz1grl.net
Yeah some of these Dr's and the fees they charge are outrageous!
And you have to wonder how competent they are.
After the PA Fiasco the lack of care she was giving to me although she did get better I finally got with what I feel is the best doctor in that office.
Also the pulmonary specialist I was referred to who is a DOT head and seemed to really not care at all, he saw me for 15 minutes said "I'll see you in 5 weeks after you have these blood tests".
I was still in bad condition then.
Got the bill from him it was $355!
I cancelled the follow up appointment and am sticking with my Dr that I see next week.
Had blood drawn this morning and need a chest x-ray and hopefully the mass in my lung has decreased some more.
Good luck with what you have going on.
Yea that FZgrl is amazing.
I have 9000 miles in 3yrs or so.
When I got sick in early February it was Snowbird season out here and the doctor offices are jam-packed you can barely get in that's why I initially saw the PA for a few visits but then switched to the doctor which I am very glad I did.
Trying to get in as many rides as possible before the triple-digit hell weather sets in.
Went through the old mining town of Superior (est 1912).
Good roads good food.
I went for rip with with my bro and one of his buddies on Saturday.
When we stopped for breakfast, I noticed my ODO had clicked past 4,000 miles.
That's almost a thousand a month since I bought the bike.
Next weekend, we plan to ride over Mt. Palomar to Borrego Springs.
