I did run across live timing at Millcreek which is going on simultaneously and their turnout is very poor.
Amatuer racing is looking bleak.
Hard to say but I think it kills both Oakhill and Millcreek at the same time. I know a lot of people dropped out of Oakhill due to tons of rain prior. If you combine the turnouts of both at one race it would be decent plus bring in others.
I think the JS7 Spring Classic at Freestone coming up this week will be pretty good turnout.
When the traditional Texas two step ended with Whitney going away, promoters scrambled to get a piece of the action which resulted in four races, in three states with two being run in top of the other.
No doubt there are fewer racers but add in the above scenario and numbers will be down. However, I still believe that am MX is at a level that should alarm people to the future if MX overall. It is at a crisis level.
One year Lake Whitney had over 3,000 entries.

It will be good to see 2 or 3 divisions of classes again.
Now, racing against 9 or 10 competitors. Really sucks. The manufacturers will always back the fastest and bring them up to pros in the sport, so what's happening at the amateur level won't be seen in the pros for awhile. Bringing in the best from other countries also fills the pro gates.
Too bad for Oak Hill as it is such a nice facility, great track, great prep work, and professionally ran.
I love Oak Hill. Track is always well maintained and prepped. People are nice. They have regular practice and lots of racing. Hope things get better for them in the years to come.
Not sure what happened with Ron Henrickson, but he ran some really good events for 3 decades, NMA used to be one of the best.

I think the death of the girl at Ponca was the straw for AMBUCs to get rid of him. Add to that, that the NMA had pissed so many people off over the years and how he handled the Branson flood where the beginnings of Hendricksons end.
NMA had big events like Branson and the world mini that went away because of low turnouts. City of Ponca changing promoters and running the Norman race on top of the new Ponca lead to the Norman race going away. NMA didnt have anything left. For now, the NMA quietly went away. I could tell that Ron rubbed people the wrong way but I always thought that, for the most part, that he ran good events. He had a long track record of running some of the highest attended am nationals for nearly 40 years. Yeah, the pre-parking deal at Ponca seemed like a big hassle but most people dont undrrstand that was a good problem to have, related to a large number of riders that went.
Finally, add all of that to a recession, scheduling issues, and the fear of the unknown lead to a low turnout and probably lost a lot of the number of riders that decided not to even bother. I firmly believe the number of people that stayed away were a lot larger in numbers than originally thought. In other words, I think that instead of going to Ponca or Norman, people decided not to go to either.
