I used to run a shoulder holster or whatever its called, and I can't stand normal sidearm holsters.
They are always in the way and just aggravate me and I don't really care at all for hip holsters.
Mostly because you get too many looks.
Im thinking an ankle holster/smaller weapon might be more suitable.

Anyone have any recommendations?
Also is GunBroker.com still good?

I haven't bought anything in a few years so kinda out of the loop!

Help me out. Thanks.

Ankle holsters are the worst if you need to access your gun. Try a small 380 with a pocket holster.

gun broker still good

ankle holster no good with shorts, white socks and dockers, sends off a tourist look, plus I don't believe in smaller weapon and to hard to bend that far with moto-knees.

I'm super happy with IWB Remora holster, it really works. no clips, hooks, chains, nothing.

Oh I know but its better than nothing.

Ill check into this. This would work for me.
Anything else seems like Im always bumping it into shit. Especially normal holsters.

I sure appreciate the advice. Today I just said fuck it. Gotta get something better thats not always in the way.

I use a Galco cop slide which is a belt holster with a Para companion .45 7 shot single stack nice and thin and that works great for me, but everyone is different.

That question has no right answer, everyone likes something different there are so many ways to go. Find something you like to shoot and are accurate with and then go from there.

Yes. Any truth to the rumor you should never carry a larger caliber than cops do?

9mm is normal and .40 cal are getting more popular in law enforcement. Never heard that saying to never carry a larger caliber than cops and not sure of the logic. It wasnt that many years ago that police could only carry a revolver so times change. Maicoman has a point,CCWs in Cal are very few and far between.

The logic was why would the public need a larger caliber than law enforcement?

So what do CA people do if permits are so hard to get now?
Open carry on the hip? I see people all the time and it just makes people uneasy.

I know people who have CC for years with no permit. No see no care I guess.
One told me " its better the cops catch me with it, than a bad guy without it"

But what matters is what the criminals have, not the police.Like I said in my other post it has not been that many years ago that the police had to carry revolvers so the police had been out gunned for years. I carry a .45 because I want stopping power.
Getting caught with a concealed gun is in most places a felony, if you cant do it the right way then pay the price when caught.

Figure out what you're comfortable with. I carry a 9mm usually higher capacity weapons in the winter like glock 17 or Mp full size 9. Simply because for me a 45 has too much bite. I can shoot a better more consistent group with 9mm rounds. And after all, your goal is just hit the threat and get away. Everyone misses. And everybody is stopped well enough by a 9mm. (My opinion only)

I want the most rounds. Betters my chances of not running out before the criminal (or newly acquired criminal)with the cheap 10 round hipoint does!

Ballistics wise there's no difference between a 9 and a .40. The .40 is tapped out in a pistol.

Ankle holsters are good for real paranoid guys like me that need a back up to the conceal carry. Woohoo

Joe my great grandfather carried everyday never had a permit. His entire life. Wasn't a criminal. Never had to use it either. But the system is designed for the criminal so you can illegally do whatever you want. Well I shouldn't say for the criminal, it's designed for Liberty. And to keep Liberty available to law abiding citizens you gotta give that right to criminals too. Point being like you said, Just don't get caught. Nobody condones that, but criminals do whatever they want--which gives them an upper hand on you everyday anyway.

Not true at all. CCW in L.A. county is non-existent. Orange, San Bernardino, Kern and many central and northern counties issue pretty regularly.

+1 on the Remora. I carry my XD with that. Very comfortable and it doesn't slip. Plus if you do need to adjust, its very quick and easy.

Georgie yah the 2nd part I see all the time. Lots of older dudes who were carrying lomg before laws.

So quick question. Is the rise I see of just regular joes with sidearms their way of saying I dont have or couldnt get a CCW permit?

I don't have a problem with it but I know it makes many uneasy. With it out of sight, people don't know the difference.
2/7/2016 9:14pm Edited Date/Time 2/7/2016 9:20pm
I'm not sure what you're asking, you can get a CCW fairly easily in America. Take a class. Apply. Background check. Take your picture, and get the permit hot off the press. The entire process can all be done within 7 business days or less.

Hell, in my state you don't even need it. I live in an open carry state. As long as the weapon is in plain sight, it is supposedly "legal" to carry.

If you truly want liberty for yourself, you can have it in America. If you know your rights as a citizen, and never get caught breaking a law, you can do whatever you want......

The rise of joes getting sidearms--I dont think has anything to do with getting a CCW. There's nothing against owning firemarms without CCWs. If you never leave your land, why bother getting a CCW? You have every right to own a firearm, knive, rock, baseball bat, fork, or even a spoon to defend yourself in the event you become threatened by anything foriegn/domestic/governmental... I don't know If I even answered what you were asking, but like I said, I'm not really sure exactly what you're asking.....

I have a pretty good buddy in the police in Arlington and he had mentioned a few years ago that several of the officers went to .40 but had switched back to 9. 9 and .40 are the two calibers of choice for officers. Agree with Mr. Porgie about carrying the 9 for the capacity gain.

The popular carrying weapons are the Ruger LC9, any of the Glock subcompacts, and I carry the M&P Shield. I really like the Shield. It's a workhorse, not very expensive and very reliable.

Where have you been for 5 years ? prison ? Gun law rules are easy to access so not sure why you dont just google it for your state.

MP produced 1 million shields. They're so cost effective and shoot so smooth that you can't not own one if you're a gun owner. I love mine. Used to have a sig p938 until I shot the shield. Immediately sold the 938 and bought two shields.

Good deal but you should have kept the p938 also, no such thing as too many guns.Wink

Lol yea it's just like the formula for dirtbikes. N = N + 1. Too many dirtbikes is always the dirtbike plus one more you don't have yet. Same with guns. Shoulda kept her. But I can't afford to own every gun at the same time, but I can afford to own every gun at different times....

The law used to be that you could go out in public with a visible sidearm, but it couldn't be loaded, which kind of nullified any good reason to carry.

I thought that even that weak allowance of open cary was outlawed here years ago, but I could be wrong.

As far as obtaining a CCW in CA right now, you have to be able to convince the County Sheriff that you have good cause to need it.

That seems pretty subjective, and is probably just a way for them to say no to most applications.

I understand that business owners who deal with cash on a regular basis usually get okayed.

Other than that...

Well, there is that.

If you looking at size and comfort, nothing beats a 380 with an inside the waist holster. If anyone says a 380 is too small, they don't know anything about self protection.
