If he had blurred vision he had to pull off. For himself and the others on the track. A CAT scan at this point seems prudent. Hopefully is just lingering effects of the concussion and time off is all he needs.

If he is experiencing blurred vision, I'm glad to see he is making the right decision to pull off the track. For himself, and every other rider on the track. It'one thing for him to make the decision to put his well-being at risk, but it would be wrong to do it to everyone else.

While I'm not a JS7 fan, I hope he can make a full recovery and get back to racing (and contending).

Last time I got knocked out, over the bars at speed, they tell me it was for over 2 minutes.

16 years later, I still ain't got it all back.
Memory mainly. Short and long term.
And quickness of thought.
Neither are game breakers, don't regret a thing.
But, there comes a time, when you gotta ask yourself, is it worth it?
You only get one brain.

If James still wants it, I'd tell him to take a year off.
Do nothing but fish and lay on the beach.
Give that thing time to heal.

Then, if he still has to, get in shape and see what's up.
But if it were me, fuck it, there's more to life than this, move on and enjoy the 2nd half, before you end up in a chair
with some orderly wiping the drool off your chin.

I've raced/ridden my whole life and had 3 or 4 concussions along the way. Just the noise and vibration not to mention the jarring of riding affected me when I got back on my bike and that's at Joey level. He's injured.

Career ending injury insurance policy? Way too many knocks to the head over the years. Seriously needs to rethink things and develop a plan, one that may not necessarily include racing for the championship but getting what he can out of the sport. With his lifestyle and spending habits he could easily be one of those broke athletes you read about on a weekly basis. Not hating either, his earning potential is still up there with the best of them.
I think there's a lot to this--Seven gear is a huge investment (I would guess), and without JS7 out there somehow on the bike or in the show, putting that gear line out there regularly, that whole investment could fall through like other famous racers (HRP immediately comes to mind for those old enough to remember when Bob Hannah tried the same thing late in his career).

You remember a few years ago when he came into the season super-skinny? He also spent much of that year being sick. As I understand it, he visited with a nutritionist who suggested that being that lean wasn't helping.

While he may not be at his ideal race weight (I'd guess the time he spent on the sidelines after Lille didn't help), he apparently was pounding out 20-lappers last week at the test track, and going very fast. Fitness doesn't seem to be the issue.

Personally, with blurred vision being an issue, I'm happy that he pulled off the track. I also see it as a good sign. "Old James" might have tried to ride through that. I'd rather see him pull off than take himself out...or maybe take another rider with him.

I hear he'll be getting a CAT scan this week, and that he'll be back when he's ready to roll.

As for some of you "experts" in here... (shaking head)

Indeed ... I am curious where this " 30 pounds" heavier figure comes from....dude is 5' 6" for crying out loud...

I would say at max he may be 10 lbs heavier than we have seen.....

See ya in PHX dude!!

Highlights the real danger of continuing to play sport while concussed. ok ok Rugby League is a very heavy contact sport but still a good read.
Just read the Sydney Herald version of the same thing... Mario hasn't been right for years, watching him on the footy show as a kid you could tell he had a hard time processing shit, they just made fun of him for it!

i really think he should stay off the bike if that's the case. Another concussion without being healed from the first might kill him or severely limit his brain function. Its a good thing he pulled off if he was having blurry vision, racing ain't worth all that. He has nothing left to prove. The guys done it all, already twice.

James came into the season in great shape and with excellent speed. If not for the incident in the first main event of the year, when he was running near the front, he would probably be sitting nicely in the points.

"easily 30lbs. heavier"?

Please explain how you know this...if you don't know, don't respond. I'll take the hint.

yes, sad to see someone go through that, was tough of the Footy show to exploit him a bit there...but then again he takes it all in great humour, the videos of him getting Falcons while playing is damn funny you have to admit !

Instead, he came back out of shape and unmotivated.

wtf? He has a noticeable belly and his gear is fitting tight as hell. Although Ive said it before, I am around the same size as Stew and gained about 25-30 when I broke some bones and looked exactly like he does now. Im not a fitness expert but I am in the gym 5 days a week and know a thing or two about fitness

I feel like Im getting attacked by the "health at every size" people who claim its perfectly fine to be 350lbs

Since your so perfect, why don't you be his new trainer? You think he can handle you having him in the gym 5 days a week?

Im a Stewart fan. He wasnt right, at all. Is the protocol to return to racing very rigorous? If so, and he passed that test but still having issues that sounds like a long term quality of life issue, as a fan id prefer him hang em up. I would really look into the return to racing protocols just to be sure for the future of the sport. I dont know what they are now maybe theyre standard with, say, football. Short of that it wouldnt hurt to look into this more.

Exactly. I can't help but get a nervous feeling when I know he's on the gate. It's like he's my kid except we're the same age and I'm white...

James should not be racing. Riders take months off for concussions all the time. Why does he feel like he needs to be racing? Go home, heal up and come back when you have 20 laps in you. I just wanna see him catch a break.
