I lettered in golf and soccer in highschool while racing b class mx.

If I had a golf tournament the monday after a sunday motocross race it was tough. Your arms are wasted from the raec then you go and try to swing a golf club consistently and it just dont work.

Ran XC and distance track events, did OK despite regular shin splint flare ups. I can honestly say it was the best thing I ever did for MX because I was in great shape and it made me want to race MX even more. It opened up a lot of the other kids eyes to MX also and I gained respect from my peers. A lot of kids couldn't believe what I did on weekends.

Baseball from T-ball thru junior yr in HS.

Pitcher and SS.
Until I discovered motocross and a job were more important to me than team sports.

Played baseball, college and got drafted by the Phillies. Played like 2.5 years and fell to shoulder injury. Then raced superbikes for a few years. Race dirtbikes and mountain bikes now.

Did they make you soak your legs in the 5 gallon bucket of ice water for the shin splints? I always remember the coach making people do that who said they had shin splints .

Ran distance with the track team and threw a discus with the field side at school.

Played quarterback with pop warner one year, played a few years of little league, a couple of years of organized soccer and of course played hockey ever winter.

Youngest son was on the high school swim team. Coach, she was a swim Nazi and there was near nothing moto related for us for those fours years chasing him all over Texas damm near every weekend year round for swim meets. His little ass sure was lean and fit beyond belief. Breezed through Marines boot camp right after graduating.

I was always skateboarding and BMXing before moto. Never allowed to race as a kid, and couldn't afford anything dirt bike related for a while after school. I was 25 for my first race, my excuse for sucking.lol
So thats a no? Lol

No they didn't, just had to sit out if it was too bad. I do remember the coach and other kids saying all you can do is "run through the pain". Ice buckets does sound like a good idea though.

I ran cross country in 9th grade until the coach made the mistake of suggesting I stop racing motocross so I could concentrate on my running. I wanted to quit right then and there but I stuck it out for the season and then never signed back up.

Do you have any waders (you dont need them but it helps)?
We could go hit up the Kalama or Grays or Naselle... wading & from the bank sometime in the near future if you want.
I've got all gear we would need for that style of fishing.
I could lend you one of my drift rods to use.
I think Mostly winter steelhead are around right now though.
Just shoot me a text or give me a call sometime.
Once the weather starts to warm -we'll have to take my boat out.

When I was in high school, motocross was a school sport.

Just about every school in the state had a team.

Motocross even qualified you for a letterman's jacket, but I skipped it because I didn't want people to think I was a jock.

Kinda wish I had gotten it, now...

Here's a tiny pic of me in my school jersey, test riding my brand new '77 RM 250:

No chance in the upper levels of baseball... It was around 1979/1980.... I'm 55 years old... Now they have specialty pitchers for every situation... The harder I threw, the straighter the ball flew... Not good without a good slider or curve
ball... Those guys could sit on the fastball...

started racing motocross in 1975 some, at the age of 15... I didn't know any better... I wanted to be Marty Smith instead of
making it to the show or even finishing college...

Played football, hockey. and lacrosse in high school.

Played 4 years of college lacrosse.

Played 1 year of college hockey (and drove the Zamboni for 3 years -a lot better way to pick up chicks!)

Raced mx just a little in high school (1984), got out of it while I wasted 10 years with college, starting a career, getting married, buying a house, ...). Started racing again in 1994, and I blinked and now I am 50, and still try to ride or race every week.

I played "ski racing" in highschool(actually started skiing @ 18 months while I was still in diapers). I raced all 4 events, Downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom and Slalom, I had a FIS card and got to basically take the winters off school to race and train. I loved it. Around 16 years old I grew tired of ski racing and I started snowboarding. I raced boardercross for a few years and rode a shitload of big kickers in terrain parks. I even quit university after 1 year and moved out West from Ontario. I got a job bartending in Banff Alberta so I could snowboard 100days a year and work during nights(Ride, Work, Sleep, Repeat....). Best time of my lifem, I'm so glad I made the choice to do it.......

Enough about me lol..I really made this thread to see if sports influenced whether you continued racing/riding (I guess I could've worded my title a little better). I wonder if anyone here had to decide like me, dirt bikes or sports. Maybe you did both and just got lucky and never got a serious injury.
That thug just had to come from Bama to huh? lol congrats on the ring.

Played football and golf. Was a pretty good offensive lineman, sucked at golf, and still do. Team sports made me appreciate people that give a shit and write off people that don't. I hate relying on others for success.

Individual sports like MX and golf always motivated me to perform better than everyone else and most of the time, if I lost, it was my own fault.

I do enjoy watching all sports on TV etc. There are some extremely talented athletes on this big blue marble, just amazing!

I see your avatar but when and where'd you play your college ball? I played a couple of years of Juco ball but didn't want to go the small school route and I wasn't getting drafted anytime soon.

I have ridden my whole life but the other sports didn't let me race so I was 24 when I picked up MX. Lots of broken collar bones later, I retired from that but still love racing cross country and enduro events.

Basketball, track , cross... er butterfly chasers.

Most fun was definitely cross country, one of our runs was Foresthill bridge and back. Look it up, the catwalk (yes you could get onto it easily) was awesome. Highly recommended !!! There might have been an odd cigarette smell coming up from under the bridge a time or two.
Best times .. 3mi 18:06 ... 400m 55sec ... high jump 6'4" most points in a BB game 16 I was ON FIRE!!

I was average at best but I had the best time of my life being average.

Grew up loving moto but was not allowed to race. Outside of possibly getting injured, I guess my parents felt like they were spending to much on training for me to get injured. My first love was basketball after my dad showed my some old pistol pete maravich videos. I was better at football and had interest from two small schools but no offers. Really cool you played for LSU. My dream was to always play for UGA.

Yeah, the avatar can be real fooling.

I played ball at Mesa State College (now Colorado Mesa University) '90-'93
Started off NAIA and ended up being D-II

Ironically, Mesa is the host school for the JUCO World Series

I can barely ice skate. The one thing I remember about ice skating is that in made the muscle beside my shin bone sore as shit. Since my last motorcycle wreck I know longer even have that muscle (major foot drop) I will probably never be able to try it.

Til I play it i'll never concede to it being a sport. lol

Played baseball and football in HS, got offers from some nice football schools but was talking to pro scouts for baseball so I went to University of Akron on a pretty big "baseball" scholarship and rarely played LOL so after graduating I finally got to live out my lifelong dream and ride dirtbikes!
