I've had horrible luck with Toyotas. Owned a 93' Taco with the 3.0L engine, blew head gaskets twice. Once at 56k miles and again at around 90k. I just bought a 02' Taco the day before Thanksgiving with the 3.4L engine and 86k on the odometer and it just blew a head gasket on New Year's Day! WTF is it with me being cursed with Toyotas and blown head gaskets? I love everything about those trucks, but damn man the engines don't hold up for me.
The 3.0 was known for blowing head gaskets. It isn't unusual, even at low mileage

I

I've had a couple Silverados in my day. Hands down, the best truck I've owned. Hit 138,000 this morning. The fuel mileage is impeccable and its dirt cheap to fully insure. No more are the days of bringing four friends and their bikes to the races.

That's very true for Insurance. the Brand New 2016 biggest Tacoma they make costs less to insure than our 2012 base Civic!

I have been looking at getting a 16 TRD OR AC but am unwilling to pay what the dealers want. What's up with all these Toyota Fanboys who will pay whatever the dealers want? Congrats on your new truck.

that's disgusting. Get this out of here. Have you driven and sat inside a new Colorado? Do you know that the stock Z71 off road Colorado has less approach angle than a Toyota Camry?

I'll be a toyota owner for life, my dad bought this new in 1986 and it's been mine since I turned 15. Parts are cheap, hauls bikes like a champ, and I think it's pretty damn cool. Congrats on your new one enketchum!

Your new Tacoma is one nice ride. Thanks for immediately getting it dirty. Smile
I use the 2011 to its potential.

We bought a 2016 Toyota Tacoma 2 weeks ago. We spent 3 months looking for one around the socal area. Had some leads to buy at 250 and 750 over invoice, but the wait time would have been 16-24 weeks, and it could be longer. My wife randomly called a dealer in Cathedral City and found that they had what we wanted in Allocation. Put 500 deposit on it on November 16 and picked it up the day it came in on December 16.

Went to Hungry Valley, Gorman, CA on Sunday. Got there late and only wheeled for 4 hours. The first trail we got on was a Blue Square and we didn't know it. Learned the 4LO and VSC system real quick! Wife kept saying, it's a beginner trail, just keep going..... We turned around after some sketchy stuff and figured out we had the map upside down.

I didn't get many pictures because my wife wouldn't get out of the truck. It was 35 degrees! The dirt was still wet from the rain the night before. It was great.

Truck impressed me. I expected a good off road truck but not one this good for the way it handles well on the road. They took a lot of cues from the Land Cruiser and made a nice truck out of it. The 2016 isn't a full redesign but the engine was enough for me to buy a 16 instead of a 15. Ita a half litre smaller and runs simulated Atkinson cycle at low rpm and low load. I have idled it for about an hour while working on it one night in the cold and the distance to empty reading went down by 2 miles.

It has a rear locker from the factory. I didn't have to use it over the weekend. It has MTS, a 5 setting version of ATRAC. Also had Crawl Control from the LC, which is a bit of a gimmick unitl you see the LC climb itself out of a sand stuck. I enabled it once on a flat area and the electrically boosted brake system started banging and clanking so I turned it off and drove up the hill with my foot on the throttle. The electric brake booster pump is super loud but produces much stronger low speed brake power compared to the vacuum system. The noises are normal but super scary at first. POP POP BANG BANG!

We went with the double cab long bed, which is an incredibly rare build in the Off Road package. Its a TRD model so it has all the nicer features, as well.

These trucks are minivans for most people who buy thene in socal, but not for us....

Hungry Valley SVRA, only 5 bucks to get in!

We turned around here on the trail we didn't know was difficult. Had lunch up this Ridge...

It looks so flat and easy in the pictures. Dirt was perfect after the rain.

Trailing is nice.

Walked this before I straddled it. Again, it looks very wide and easy in the picture! This trail had some other fun, yet challenging sections.

Took off the black stickers between the windows. They looked crappy up close and I don't like the one big window look.

Let me know if you have any questions about the 2016. I know a lot after researching it for 6 months
I fucking love the new Tacoma's look.

It's next on my "things to buy" list.

My questions more pertain to the features than the off road capabilities.

I want to get a TRD model (preferably the "pro" if they come out with one) that has the scoop on the hood. But I also want to have the leather seats & sunroof package.

Im not sure if that will be something they offer. The TRD Pro's are not customizable so I might pass on it. But I still have to have the TRD Sport but with sunroof & leather.

You would want a Sport with Premium and Tech Package. That gets you the sunroof. You can have Lather installed at port. Go talk to your dealer now, they can order you one built in that fashion

Thanks.

Yeah I just went into the dealership 2 days ago.

The limited & TRD sport dont mix. Gotta pick one or the other. It's a damn shame Toyota never allows us to get ALL the features we want in the same Tacoma.

Im gonna do what you suggested. TRD Sport, w/ premium & tech, JBL Sound. The dealer has a 3rd party they use to install the leather (same as factory).

Found an open forest service gate after mountain biking. This was the only good thing down there, except a guy in a taxi who turned around here. He would have made it....

They can only crank out as many as possible if they plan what to build around 40 days ahead of time. Your dealer can put in a request for a Sport with Premium Tech JBL and hopefully Toyota will allocate one to them. I know way too much about this. I can help you get exactly what you want that they build and tell you what invoice pricing is for each piece of it. Start here. Ask me questions. Don't get screwed

Do you want access cab, double can short bed, or double cab long bed? Auto or manual? I4 or v6? Color? Find it all here with full msrp and invoice.

My wife has a 2014 4runner and I enjoy driving it, but oil changes are a pain compared to my silverado. So far that has been my only gripe.

Long bed is 6'1". Short bed is 5'

All Access Cabs are built in San Antonio. Most double cabs are built in Baja but some are built in San Antonio. All Tundras are built in San Antonio

The Sport will get your color matched bumpers and flares so it will be all black. The JBL system only comes with a small 400 watt sub. You are paying 700 dollars for a sub with no line converter or anything to clean the sub channel output. It's a waste of money if you have any knowledge of audio components. The TRD package is already getting you the upgraded head unit so you are mostly paying the Premium and Tech package for the sunroof, blind spot and back up assist, and dual zone climate.

Did Cleghorn in HEAVY RAIN on Sunday. It was awesome up there in the rain and 60mph wind gusts. Didn't feel unsafe at all, just a lot of water crossing the trail

Had a '96 4x4 with over 300,000. Replaced nothing but the oil and the fan belt once. When the frame recalls first started rolling out, Toyota bought it back for blue book plus half. Nearly 10k for an old beater but I regret every time I see one. Bought this leftover when the new gen came out. I don't need a full size truck, this does everything I need then some.
