It's amazing to think how this guy could probably get back in the game and win... if he was crazy enough to do it.

Citing RacerX / Alex Gobert:

"Carmichael’s speed was once again the talk of the pit, lapping amongst the SX1 regulars in timed practice and qualifying sessions. He was also in the single-lap Superpole shootout, slotting into fourth with a 30.788s lap (Reed’s pole was 29.995s) and even one place ahead of Webb (30.790s)."

Someone please YouTube he and Chad's race asap.

I honestly believe he could still be winning outdoors if he was still in shape.

Great move by the promoters to get him there - I'd bet RC will be asked to do a lot more stuff like this in the future.

I'll admit it, I thought the head-to-head races would be boring. I didn't think RC would get close, but I couldn't have been more wrong...

I made the 10hr drive to watch the SX in Sydney. I was super bummed when bubba wasnt coming, but too see RC ride around for those few laps made it totally worth it. As a kid your dream is to see RC race and that happened to us aussies.
His speed was super quick for our tight SX track, the way he was hitting the whoops and rythm section was as he never stopped.

I think webb was off his game saturday night, rode alot better sunday. although he was doing the quickest times he got a super bad start.

It was good to see but they weren't at full race pace. They were lapping in the 31's for the head to head , Reed went a 28.4 in the main I believe. It was awesome to see RC put in a few hot laps in the 30's, having been in retirement for so long he still decimates majority of the field on a good day.

RC didn't just show up, he got involved in everything. He was out on the track checking out the racing, the freestyle and talking to everyone. It would be good to see him back again next year. It would good to see them on a bigger track...

RC was also one of the first on the scene when Faith went down and stayed with him till the medics got him stabilized and taken away. There's a picture of him giving Webb pointers on the start line before a race. He spent the entire time in his gear on the side of the track watching every race, even the lites LCQ. Genuinely seemed to be having a good time and heard nothing but good things from people about how he acted all weekend. I'll admit my perception of him did change a bit after hearing PULP stories but its changed again, he's a top bloke from all accounts and a great ambasador.

He rode about two or three times in the week leading up to the event. Remember he didn't even know he was going till the last minute. Dudes a bad ass

It's great to see him get semi-serious about his riding again the past year or so.

Slumpstone would know since his son trains at the farm regularly. I wouldn't question his insight, Ricky doesn't ride that often and when he does it is not many laps. His ride this weekend was all natural talent.

I thought it was gonna be a 2 stroke race, it was certainly promoted that way. However, it turned out to be great theatre. A bit of smack talk, and swapping start positions made for the kind of hype that you want for entertainment. Don't take it too seriously, it was a couple of guys having fun for the crowd.

Shoot, I got to see RC and CR on the track. Live. Really special.

As for the lap times, when you consider the amount of time in the tunnel the track was really tiny. That said, the whoops and the 180 degree turns made for some really exciting racing. Wait 'till you see Reed and Webb on the Sunday event.

Awesome stuff.

Also a note to promoters. The Joker lane should ALWAYS be a short cut. Guys will never forget to take it and it's like watching them steal an advantage. So much better than a Joker Lane that is slower, IMHO.

And to think people always said he never had much natural talent, they claimed it was mostly due to working harder. That pretty much shows what the deal is...
