There getting close.
The fit is not only business related but is personal too. Franco has the "original" Preston Petty Products wooden sign hanging in his office. Franco and Preston go back to 1973 when Franco was also the European distributor of Preston Petty Products. Better than that they are both still great friends!
I will be also posting this on the PPP Facebook page....
Both Mike Murphy and I have been very active in keeping track of all the color requests. It has been hard to respond to everyone but we both wanted you all to know that we hear you! We cannot promise that we will be able to fulfill every color request. To make a specific color means making a fairly large quantity of one color. We have to be sure there is enough of a demand to make each color we have matched.
Shortly we will be actually taking pre-orders. We will be offering a discounted "buy in" special price for those who pay us in advance. It is possible that the fenders may arrive to you in 30 days after you "buy in" but you will receive a better price and be assured to get your color(s) on our first production run. Until all the production costs are in we will not be able to give what the "buy in" price will be but we should know within a few weeks and then will ask to start the "buy in" offering.
Mike, Preston and I have seen and approved the 2nd "model" MX front "Tony D" fender- Looks perfect!!
As you all have seen in the photos the steel tool is finished. We needed to replace one half of the tool because it was not perfect and this is what has held us up. We did not expect this but it happened and we are almost at the finish line now.
Either this week or next week all three of us will receive fenders that are physically made from this tool. Once the three of us say "yes this is perfect" then we get ready for production.
There are lots of moving parts and pieces to making just plastic fenders!!
All fenders will have the new updated version of the "1 year Guaranteed Unbreakable" warranty.
Disclaimer- --
What I would like explain is that we will be avoiding calling any of our colors by a specific brand name. The majority of of color requests come to us as " Honda red", "Suzuki yellow", "Qualifier orange" etc........ Mike and I do not want to tell you that our fenders are going to be an exact match for the gas tank on the bike you purchased on eBay. Nor can we promise that someone might have an original Preston Petty fender in the bag purchased in 1973 will match our fender colors. While working on the color blue for instance we had eight different brand new in the bag original PPP blue fenders. Almost every one was a slightly different shade than the next one. Even though there was one blue Preston Petty shade produced.
I have sent a few "blue" color chips from our manufacture to my good friend Tim Weaver and have asked his help and advise in picking the best suited color blue for the Bultaco's.
We have and are still currently working everyday on color matching. We provide our manufacture with brand new excellent condition Preston Petty fenders. Then three weeks later color chips from our manufacture arrive. We then take time ,effort and great pains to verify the chip against the new Preston Petty fender. More time and effort has gone into color matching than anything else at this point. We are determined to not only make the best products but also to get the best colors matches possible. At this time it seems our first run of MX front "Tony D" fenders will be the following colors Opache (translucent",black, light yellow, dark yellow, bright orange, pumpkin orange, blue, red and white. There may be other colors in the future. Thanks for your patience and understanding!!
I have also studied a lot of photos and it seems to me that there was 2 shapes of Tony D fenders. The early ones looked like the same radius as the IB mudder but with side wings, and then a little later it looks like the Tony D's radius got more tighter. I have seen these variances on a lot of bikes and i am quite certain that the radius must of been changed at some point.
From measuring many many of the original fenders and speaking with Preston the radius did ever so slightly vary but we attribute this to whomever made them not letting them cool in a cooling rack to allow for a fixed radius. Our new fenders will be allowed to cool for short time before being packaged. This should give uniformity.
When we are ready to offer the "buy in" special we will be posting on social media sites like this one plus our Preston Petty Products Facebook page and also our Preston Petty Products website. If you can please email me directly at paul@prestonpettyproducts.com with what colors you are looking for please and the quantity I will be sure to add your name and email address to our list. This when when we are ready you will be directly notified.
Thanks guys!
Paul
Any chance you will be making the plastic bash plates, MX rear and rear mudder/big rear mudder?
Yellow oval number plates would be good too.
Pit Row
If there ever comes a time you care to possibly let me borrow them for one week I can scan them in here and ship them right back to you. I also have some of the catalogs and flyers but it would nice to see things I had not known before. Both Mike and I are students of the brand.
Plastic skid plate- there is a good chance yes. We have some ideas we are considering
MX rear fender- absolutely yes! Preston Petty Products has been asked to be the AHRMA national sponsor for MX in 2016 and we have accepted. So we will need the MX rear fender to pair up with our Tony D fronts.
Rear Muder- There is a good possibility in the future yes.
Big Rear Muder- Has not come up in many requests or discussions so at this time doubtful it will happen but we never say never.
Yellow (and White) oval numberplates- YES they are almost done. Tool has been finished and Mike is waiting anxiously for the latest sample to arrive. Once he approves the sample production will start. Final cost to be determined once we are positive there are no other costs to incur prior to production.
Tooling is very very expensive and needed production run quantities are very very large so we need to move slowly and cautiously. Once the MX front (Tony D) fenders start to sell we are ready to pull the trigger on the MX rear fender. The digital design work is done so we are close.
Thanks for the interest in the product line. It means so much to Mike, myself and Preston too that the demand is still out there for the Preston Petty Products. The cool thing now is that we are doing it with Preston's advise and knowledge. Yes we are making vintage style products but we are making some what we all feel will be new updated modifications. Such as the headlight numberplates will soon have custom plastic LED bulbs. We also plan to use adjustable rubber straps to help hold the headlight numberplates to the forks. 30mm forks?? 40mm forks??? no problem as we will have the adjustable rubber straps.
Gotta go pack some orders...
Paul
But they do exist
Lucky timing on eBay

No it would be way too expensive to mail them from Australia, trust me and you wont want to pay for shipping both ways. These catalogues are thick and heavy. I have got boxes full of 70's and 80's aftermarket parts catalogues from USA suppliers, many who sold Petty products. Some of the Malcolm Smith ones are over an inch thick. I just gotta get motivated enough to scan the pages. Comming up to xmas holidays time so i will work on it then.
If you could make the LED headlights with hi/low beam and not just dimming LED's that would make them more street legal. I want to see if i can adapt one of these into a Petty light as they are the same 4.5 insert size. probably too expensive for you to offer though at around $150-$160 USD

0547031 is hi/lo version. These are very good lights.
The one thing that always frustrated me with the Petty lights is the way they fitted to the forks and the fact it usually did not allow for fitting a speedometer. To get one to work on my bike and am going to have to make mounts that space the headlight further off the forks so i can have enough room to tuck a speedo behind the plate.
I had thought that the "Big Muder" was wider than the "Rear Muder" fender but you are correct they in fact are the same fender except for "Big" and "Rear". I would think then that we might make these but call them "Rear Muder" time and demand will tell.
Mike and Preston are working all the time on the new LED bulb for the headlight numberplate. I hope Mike might jump in and explain what is happening there.I do not believe that our bulbs will ever be "street legal" as this qualifies as DOT approved and to become certified for this is a long expensive validation process. Even when we met with Acerbis they did not want to touch this.

Soon very very soon we will have brand new MX Front "Tony D" fenders to offer the world.
A few still shots of the new Tony D fender just sent after being produced from the new tool!! Mike, Preston and I are all very excited and very proud.
